      Metropolitan State Hospital is located in the city of Norwalk.
      The DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is accepting applications for Chief Engineer II in the Plant Operations Department. This is a Permanent/Fulltime position.

      Job duties include but are not limited to: Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of skilled and semiskilled workers engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air-conditioning systems, including stationary engines, boilers, compressors, pumps, condensers, steam lines, water lines, gas lines, controls, and meters; directs the maintenance and repair of water, electrical, and elevator systems, shop machinery and similar equipment; directs the analysis of boiler feed water samples and determines water treatment needed; supervises the servicing and maintenance of fire extinguishers and other fire protection equipment; may supervise carpentry, painting, and related work required in the incidental maintenance and repair of buildings; evaluates staff performance and takes or recommends appropriate action; prepares requisitions for fuel, equipment, and maintenance supplies; is responsible for the clean and orderly condition of boiler rooms and related equipment rooms; keeps or directs the keeping of charts and records; and prepares reports.

      Working Conditions

      Face Coverings: While working on-site, employees must follow current face covering guidance as issued by CDPH.

      The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. Further inquiries may be directed to the hiring manager during the onsite interview.

      Opened in 1916, DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital is in the vibrant community of Norwalk,15 miles east of Los Angeles. To the south are entertainment venues like Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, the marinas and beaches of Huntington, Newport and Laguna. To the west are Palos Verdes and Marina Del Rey.

      DSH-Metropolitan State Hospital has an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds. The commitment categories of patients treated at DSH-Metropolitan: Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Act, Incompetent to Stand Trial (PC 1370), Offenders with Mental Health Disorders (Penal Code Section 2964/2972/2974), Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (PC 1026).

      Minimum Qualifications

      Either Pattern I
      One year of experience performing the duties of a Chief Engineer I in the California state service. or

      Four years of experience performing the duties of an Office Building Manager or Stationary Engineer in the California state service.

      Or Pattern II
      Four years of experience within the last fifteen years in the maintenance and operation of a heating, ventilating, and air- conditioning system and related equipment in a large commercial, industrial, or governmental building or institution including one year of experience in supervising such a system.
