      The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.

      DEDO is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented leader to serve as our Chief Financial Officer. This position will report to the Executive Director and will oversee the financial well-being of the agency. The CFO has responsibility over processes to ensure DEDO remains efficient, compliant, financially grounded, and successful in delivering world-class economic development programming in Denver.

      This position oversees finance, accounting, and contracting for DEDO, including all our unique and various grant and special revenue funding. This role requires a thorough understanding of various Federal and State funded grant requirements, including funding provisions of federal dollars through Community Development Block Grant, Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act, and the city’s Fiscal Accountability Rules, among other responsibilities.

      This role requires a strategic leader with the ability to lead teams through change management and process improvements and have a strong ability to think creatively both financially and organizationally to enhance DEDO’s ability to lead the City of Denver through various economic development efforts.

      As part of the Executive leadership Team, you can expect to:

      • Lead all Finance, Budgeting, Accounts Payable, and Accounting activities, including overseeing professional level staff and management to perform their duties
      • Lead DEDO’s annual budget process in coordination with the City Department of Finance. This is a visible and timely activity that requires strong project management skills
      • Lead all Contract Administration functions, including a team of professional staff, and work in close coordination with the City Attorney’s Office
      • Be a strategic partner on all programming and funding decisions within DEDO
      • Advocate for various Mayoral, business, and workforce priorities
      • Develop expertise in community development and business development activities and projects
      • Build subject matter expertise within the City and County of Denver’s processes to ensure efficient processing and creative problem solving
      • Develop goals and objectives for the Finance and Operations teams
      • Utilize data to understand local and national trends and set objectives, goals, and programming based on those trends
      • Work as a close collaborator and thought partner to the Executive Director and Executive Leadership team, ensuring close working relationships and a high level of communication
      • Identify, implement efficiencies and innovation for process improvement. Oversee standardization of processes within DEDO
      • Build and manage strong relationships with peers, financial leaders, internal and external stakeholders

      About You

      Our Ideal Candidate will have:

      • A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, with at least five years of supervisory experience in a financial leadership role
      • Strong in-depth acumen for leading Finance and/or Accounting operations as a results-driven executive or senior leader in a government, non-profit, corporate or similar setting
      • Experience advising senior leadership accordingly. Extensive people leadership experience in the finance industry providing direction, and management of financial functional areas
      • Familiarity with federal grants such as: CDBG, WIOA, ARPA and Coronavirus relief funds
      • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and drive projects to completion with limited supervision. Work well in high pressure environment, triage priorities, and meet deadlines
      • Contracts, legality of fulfilling contractual obligations
      • Extensive process improvement and data analytics experience. Demonstrated project management experience. Experience in planning, construction, economics, or business development a plus
      • Strong business ethical conduct and the ability to maintain confidentiality
      • Proactive, with expert problem-solving skills, along with a very strong attention to detail

      • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s)
      • Experience: Three (3) years of management level work experience which must have included managing subordinate supervisors. One (1) year of management experience must include budget and fiscal oversight responsibility, evaluation of business processes, and policy and decision-making experience with planning and organizing multiple programs, projects, operations, or functions
      • Education/Experience Equivalency: Two (2) years of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
