- Chairs (or co-chairs with a Nursing staff designee) nursing advisory groups to provide broad-based input and alignment into the design of the clinical information systems.
- Chairs (or co-chairs with a Nursing staff designee) nursing advisory groups in the design of clinical systems to support excellence in patient care.
- This role must maintain positive relationships and be a trusted advisor. Maintaining a relationship and alignment with the Medical Center and Community CNO roles is critical.
- Is responsible for the development of applications and technologies that provide Clinical Decision Support resources including Clinical Rules, Nursing Clinical Documentation, and clinical applications of work flow engines, AI, and RPA.
- Develops empathy and understanding of nursing needs and builds relationships with nursing to gain support of IT initiatives. Is highly responsive to users needs, including training, to assure wide spread acceptance and nursing use of the clinical systems.
- Reviews Nursing informatics trends, experiences and approaches, develops technical and application implementation strategies and assists in the development of strategic plans for clinical information systems.
- Engages outside of the organization in forums and application user groups to share our initiatives and successes and to be informed of industry trends and leverage the accomplishments of other organizations.
- Experience in a Magnet organization with involvement in leading aspects of preparation. Clear understanding of requirements and technology expectations.
- Responsible for creating alignment on tactics between Health IT and both Academic and Community Partners while involving all appropriate areas needed such as cyber security, compliance or quality. Open mindedness to new technologies and processes is a must.
- Leads development and ongoing review of clinical "rules" used by nursing teams supporting patient care and protocol research as well as the design of clinical system features supporting protocol management and the use of the system to leverage the clinicians' time and maximize communication with affiliates and referring nursing.
- Leads development and deployment of solutions that cluster information in disease and episodic categories for benchmarking, clinical severity, and variance analysis. Works with Knowledge Management and the Vice President of Quality to design and evaluate collection of data for clinical purposes, including tracking and interpretation of outcomes.
- The CNIO must minimally be masters prepared. Doctorate is preferred.

- Has experience in process improvement methodologies and is skilled in change management.
- Possesses a strong analytic background.
- Possesses good grasp clinical work flow in both inpatient and outpatient settings, interest in clinical information systems and outcomes measurement.
- Must have the ability to develop flexible, transferable models for pathways of care.
- Is a strong leader with a mature sense of priorities and solid practical experience who can design and implement systems within the framework of technical boundaries?
- Is politically savvy, has a high tolerance for ambiguity and can work successfully in a matrix management model.

• The CNIO works in a dyad with the CMIO to deploy and develop sound, clinically relevant technology solutions that promote standardization and high quality, efficient patient care. The CNIO participates as a member of the Health IT department leadership team and other IT & Clinical groups to align technology and clinical needs of the health system.
• S/he supports management in promoting the use of information technology among Nursing staff members and departments. S/he also is accountable for driving activities to improve clinician EMR utilization, efficiency and burn-out concerns in conjunction with the other leaders within the organization.
• The CNIO works in partnership with Health Information Technology Project Teams to translate clinician requirements into specifications for new clinical systems and communicates change and drives adoption of new implementations. The CNIO works with the CNO and Nursing IT leadership to assure an integrated and effective clinical work flow across disciplines in all clinically related digital systems. The CNIO is also tasked with participating in the collaboration between the Schools of Nursing and Data Science.
• The CNIO aligns with the priorities and strategic plan of the organization as it effects technology and is responsible with the CIO in the execution of the IT portfolio. As a key leader in execution the CNIO assists in planning, strategy and execution of project activities.
• The CNIO supports our Magnet designation and professional governance structure, partnering with nursing leadership and the Magnet Program Directors to achieve and maintain Magnet designation. Supports shared decision-making with professional governance teams to achieve exemplary professional practice and optimize the use of the EMR in nursing’s workflow.
