      Position Summary: The Chief of Campus Safety and Security at Saint Andrew's School will be responsible for developing, implementing, delivering, and managing comprehensive safety and security programs. This individual will work collaboratively with the administrative team, faculty, and staff to create and promote a safe and secure environment for our entire school community.

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Overseeing the security department, ensuring operational efficiency and alignment with institutional objectives.

      • Formulating and refining school-wide safety and security policies and procedures incorporating best practices.

      • Conduct risk assessments and formulate strategies to mitigate security threats and hazards.

      • Lead and ensure safety and security readiness for daily operations including special events.

      • Leading the development and implementation of emergency and crisis preparedness and response plans and manuals including overseeing regular drills and exercises.

      • Act as the point of contact during emergencies and coordinate the response efforts.

      • Serves as the school’s liaison to the local Police Department, Fire Department, Federal agencies, and other law enforcement and emergency management-related agencies.

      • Ensure timely and effective communication to all stakeholders during crises.

      • Providing detailed briefs and updates to Saint Andrew’s leadership on security status and developments.

      • Investigate security incidents, accidents, and breaches and maintain accurate records of incidents, and oversee incident reporting process.

      • Work with Senior Leadership to identify and formulate health and safety programs and strategies to support PK-12 students

      • Managing and optimizing the security department’s budget, equipment, and personnel resources.

      • Advises school safety design and on School construction and renovation projects.

      • Coordinates with the Director of Facilities and Operations on physical safety including access controls, perimeter safety,

      • Recruits, employs, and trains school safety personnel as required and oversees any contracted security personnel.

      • Advocating for security enhancements and innovations.

      • Supervising security personnel and developing a culture of excellence and responsiveness.

      • Oversee and provide training and awareness programs for faculty, staff, and students on safety and security protocols.

      • Ensuring that security operations are compliant with legal and ethical standards.

      • Protects confidentiality of records and information about staff, and uses discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.

      • Leading strategic planning, and aligning security initiatives with institutional goals and challenges.

      • Be available off hours to respond to and/or coordinate safety and security emergencies, including weather-related events.

      • Adheres to federal statutes and regulations, school law, Board of Education rules and regulations, School Committee policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.

      • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of School and Chief Financial and Operating Officer.

      Qualifications


      • Bachelor's degree required in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

      • At least five (5) years of military, law enforcement, or executive protection experience.

      • At least five (5) years of relevant experience, in safety and/or security, emergency response or risk assessment required in a school environment.

      • At least three (3) years supervisory experience, including assigning, managing, and evaluating staff.

      • Demonstrated successful leadership experience, with a passion for challenging, empowering, and driving team results.

      • Exceptional strategic thinking, and communication skills.

      • Comprehensive knowledge of security operations, legal frameworks, and community engagement.

      • High level of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct.

      • Proven ability to build and nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders.

      • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

      • Experience in budget management, resource allocation, and advocacy.

      • Hazmat training preferred.

      • Extensive experience with law enforcement agencies.

      • Ability to work with police and safety personnel as well as school staff; be team oriented while capable of working independently; and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with administrators, teachers, staff, and parents in a diverse school community.

      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines.

      • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.

      • Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage multiple tasks and priorities.

      • Have knowledge of school law, DESE regulations, and school policy and procedures.

      • Demonstrate skills in planning, research, and management.

      • Experience using and managing access control systems, video recording and camera systems and visitor management systems.

      • Cultural Competence (i.e., Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive work environment.)

      Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and for the majority of the work day. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
