- Serve as a key advisor and thought partner to the Vice Chancellor of People, Culture and Belonging.
- Serve as a representative of the vice chancellor, interacting frequently with stakeholders both internal and external to the Division of People, Culture and Business and act as the senior liaison for the office.
- Strategically partner with key stakeholders to support the operational and people objectives of the university, divisions, schools, and the department with a focus on out of state employees.
- Build and maintain effective, collaborative, and consultative relationships with Trustees, leadership, stakeholders and clients throughout the university and community as applicable.
- Drive initiatives while representing and communicating the vice chancellor’s vision and strategy with both the internal team and all stakeholders.
- Monitor initiatives established by the vice chancellor to ensure timely, accurate and successful completion by all staff. Identify measures for success and drive for results in each project or initiative while also assessing and reporting on progress and impact to division leadership and other stakeholders.
- Manage the day-to-day operational and financial affairs of the Office of the Vice Chancellor, including supervision of staff and coordination of all functions and activities.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education is necessary.
- Master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of related experience serving in a strategic role is necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communications, listening skills is required.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook) is required.
The Chief of Staff of the Office of the Vice Chancellor of People, Culture and Belonging is responsible for the day-to-day management and business operations of the Division of People, Culture and Belonging including management of budget, staffing and operating procedures. The Chief of Staff also leads high-impact, high-visibility projects and other initiatives at the direction of the Vice Chancellor. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for People, Culture and Belonging, this position will draw upon broad concepts and ideas to continuously augment strategic projects and planning for divisional and institutional priorities, develop cross-functional action plans, drive for results and measure success and impact to inform future planning and work. The Chief of Staff serves as coordinator of executive level decision making ensuring the office has the necessary resources and capacity to meet its objectives while coordinating, progressing and communicating the Vice Chancellor’s initiatives.
The Chief of Staff will be a member of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for People, Culture and Belonging, with oversight across the division. The Division of People, Culture and Belonging leads staff culture and belonging initiatives by bringing together key operational activities that affect the Vanderbilt staff experience, including hiring, professional development, equal opportunity and access, and health and wellness programs to engage and inspire staff to participate in Vanderbilt University’s global academic and research mission.
