- Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel) and statistical software applications.
- Provide leadership and a strategic vision for the entire MLH medication use process to provide safe, timely, effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical care to MLH patients
- Responsible for leading the development, management, and improvement of pharmacy operations and clinical practice on the system level through implementation of standardized programs, planning, and processes, and the on-going development of consolidated pharmacy strategies.
- Provides leadership for the System Pharmacy Steering Committee to align pharmacy services with key organizational goals, optimize resources, and provide administrative oversight. Serves as an effective team leader and/or facilitator for pharmacy sub-committees.
- Forecasts, develops, and coordinates the execution of operational pharmacy solutions to meet the future needs of the organization. Forward thinking in strategic planning for pharmacy informatics, automated equipment, and medication usage.
- Develops and implements pharmacy operational plans that ensure an efficient medication management process for positive patient outcomes and appropriate drug utilization.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and controls pharmacy operations for assigned area(s); monitors operations to keep informed and to ensure that professional and hospital standards are being met.
- Directs the activities of Associates as assigned; monitors performance and clarifies work expectations, and assists with goal setting; promotes cooperation among individuals and groups. Develops and implements processes through orientation, training and education to ensure that the competence of staff members is assessed, maintained, improved and demonstrated.
- Develops and maintains quality improvement programs; ensures that productivity and QA data is compiled and reports prepared for MLH management and regulatory bodies.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
Summary
The Chief Pharmacy Officer is responsible for all pharmacy departments, including Acute Care (Inpatient) Pharmacy, Outpatient Pharmacy Services, Pharmacy Supply Chain/340b, Pharmacy Quality/Medication Safety, as well as Clinical Pharmacy Services. Ensures that all pharmacy services are performed in a manner consistent with applicable federal, state, and accreditation organizations rules, regulations, and standards. Oversees all clinical pharmacy programs, as well as the procurement, preparation, distribution, and control of all drugs and drug products for the health system. Works through direct and indirect reports to oversee drug inventories, budget preparation and monitoring, all pharmacy residencies & other professional training programs, employment activities and all business operations. Serves as division's principal strategic planner and serves as the system Pharmacy leader to plan, prioritize, integrate, align, and standardize all programs, operations, and processes involving drug utilization and drug policy. Leads the System Pharmacy Steering Committee and provides oversight for collaborative committees. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
Education/Experience/Licensure
Education/Formal Training Work Experience Credential/Licensure REQUIRED: Master’s degree in Hospital Pharmacy, MHA, MBA, or job-relevant master’s degree.
Minimum of seven years of progressive health-system pharmacy leadership experience. Licensed as Pharmacist in State of TN (or eligible for license within 3 months).
