- Accountable for understanding and shaping our clients’ technical direction, projecting thought leadership, prioritising time with clients to gain mission intimacy and to increase Northrop Grumman’s technical ‘presence’.
- Responsible for setting the C&I technical strategy and engaging our workforce and our clients in that strategy, in-line with the overall organisational strategy. Provides technical direction for (and technical leadership of) the Engineering workforce in the C&I business.
- Accountable for the technical quality of the artefacts Northrop Grumman releases. This includes:
- Accountability for technical coherence across the portfolio.
- Ensuring appropriate quality standards have been set and are applied.
- Relevant performance metrics are identified and implemented as a key part of continuous improvement.
- Lessons identified are captured in changes to the above also as a key part of continuous improvement.
- Responsible for actively supporting Business Development, Capture and Proposal development (and provision of direction to Northrop Grumman’s Senior Cyber Technologists). Includes responsibility for bid solution assurance.
- Responsible for fostering C&I focused innovation, stimulating new propositions and working with Capture to pull this through into new work. Includes driving new ways of working, new types of relationships with clients etc.
- Working closely with our Lead US ExPat, responsible for identifying the technical capabilities and ways of working from Northrop Grumman in the US that are applicable to our clients’ needs, now and in the future.
- Responsible for identifying technical capability gaps and obsolescence, sending demand signals to Northrop Grumman’s internal capacity function and informing the Annual Operating Plan and Long Range Strategic Plan. This includes responsibility for identifying appropriate partners to add, reshape and retire to our supplier ecosystem.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested.
- Attend C&I Leadership Team (LT) meetings as required.
- Contribute collective leadership as a member of the C&ILT, supporting each other as an LT.
- Ensure C&I business successes are actively identified and celebrated (both teams and individuals).
- Share collective responsibility for the development and delivery of C&I strategy.
- Share collective responsibility for the attraction and retention of staff.
- Support the NSS Technical Director in developing and growing a professional and engaged team, effectively representing the technical direction of the C&I business to the NSS Technical Director to ensure alignment.
- Remain compliant with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Act as a role model, exhibiting NG’s values at all times.
- Act as a Northrop Grumman Brand Ambassador.
- Actively promote diversity and inclusion.
- Extensive experience in the technology industry.
- Experience working in the National Security Sector and wider UK Government organisations, with deep domain insight.

- Adept at dealing with competing priorities and deadlines at a leadership level. A good coach and delegator to enable force multiplication.
- Travel requirements: Some UK travel required to attend team and customer meetings. Occasional international travel may be required.
- Clearance requirements: You must be able to gain and maintain the highest level of UK Government clearance

The Cyber & Intelligence (C&I) Chief Technologist is a critical role in realising the potential of Northrop Grumman’s rapidly expanding C&I business, sat within our UK National Security Solutions (NSS) Business. As a key member of the C&I Leadership Team, this role will demonstrate thought leadership and governance to a diverse portfolio of capability and Customers.
Driven by personal excitement of rapid changes in technology and the application of such changes to this market, the successful candidate will set the technical direction of the C&I business, ensure the technical quality and coherence of what Northrop Grumman delivers and provide technical leadership to our workforce.
Externally, the successful candidate will project thought leadership to our clients and be instrumental in the development of new business, stimulated from client intimacy and furthering our current innovation culture.
The role is largely technology agnostic, but rather looking to understand trends, risks and opportunities and to bring a clear-eyed view as to what should be adopted in the future.
