      Team Name: Children's Continence Service

      Base: The Ridge Hill Centre

      WTE: 25 hours per week

      An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dudley Children's Continence Service to support our nurse led team in community clinics. The successful nurse will have experience working with school aged children with bladder and bowel problems involving completing holistic assessments and developing personalised plans.

      The service will offer both clinical and managerial supervision in order to support the individual.

      Main duties of the job

      Support school aged children with continence issues who reside in the Dudley locality

      To run nurse led clinics within the community

      To offer specialist support to children and their families, offering a comprehensive assessment and individualized care plan.

      To offer specialist toileting advice for children who are slow to acquire full continence (toilet training) and offer containment product assessment where appropriate

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      1. Responsibility for Patient Care (including monitoring, diagnostics + investigations)

      1. To work with children who are slow to acquire faecal and urinary incontinence
      2. Have a moderate degree of global delay
      3. Have a physical condition which hinders continence
      4. Work autonomously within continence clinics without supervision, accountable for own professional actions
      5. Have secondary enuresis or encopresis as a behavioural response to emotional difficulties
      6. Ensure that all patient records are completed and maintained in line with Trust policy, observing patient confidentiality at all times
      7. Provide specialist assessment, support and treatment for children aged 0 -19 years who have more complex continence needs
      8. Enhance quality of life for people with long term conditions
      9. Ensuring that people have a positive experience of care
      10. Understanding of child anatomy and physiology
      11. Clear understanding of bowel conditions and faecal impaction
      12. Use a varied array of skills to devise continence packages for children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, complex health care.
      13. Refer children and young people to other specialists and agencies as appropriate
      14. Refer to the Continence Lead if any issues require more specialist advice and intervention, thereby maintaining high service standards
      15. Deal with patient complaints in a positive and sensitive way in accordance with Trust policy

      26. Act as a role model of excellence in childrens continence care

      1. Provide professional advice, support and leadership to colleagues
      2. Attend, as appropriate, regional and national events to enable Black Country Partnership to be identified as a service provider of childrens continence best practice
      3. Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with disabilities, school nurses, health visitors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists
      4. Provide clinical advice in relation to home delivery service enquiries
      5. To liaise with continence service (continence products)
