- ** Serves as the Director for the Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (CIIHE), providing leadership, direction, and guidance on the activities of the Center.
- ** Develops and implements short-term and long-term strategies and practices addressing the efficacy of the Center, its methodologies, and frameworks. Leads and represents the Center to build working relationships and drive research agenda with members of the NHPI community, researchers, state and federal governmental agencies, the CIIHE Advisory Board, CIIHE core partners, investors, and other key stakeholders.
- ** Provides supervision and management of core CIIHE administrative staff, including supporting staff members' professional and personal development.
- ** Oversees successful execution of grants that sustain the Center, including all reporting requirements, with the CIIHE staff and in strong partnership with funders (including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Minority Health and the UH Foundation).
- Acts in the absence of the PI to perform non-routine, complex and confidential administrative duties.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative ties with organizations and facilitates communications among all project participants.
- Works closely with the Project Administrator to implement and revise best practices for the Center's operations.
- Performs other related project administration duties as required.
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Sciences, Economics, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander studies or related field and at least seven years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for community engagement, public health, financial management or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community networks, culture, history, and practices as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with fields of community centered research, public policy, strategic planning and organizational leadership, program management, work in state and federal agencies, or related.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Exhibit clear competencies and experience in working in partnership with community and NHPI organizations in supporting the fiscal, programmatic, and policy needs related to the perpetuation and expansion of Indigenous Health.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of the fields of community centered research, public policy, strategic planning and organizational leadership, program management, work in state and federal agencies, or related.
- Demonstrated ability to understand problems from a broad interactive perspective and use reasoning to discern underlying principles and issues when problem solving, and apply creative thinking to resolve problems in new and unprecedented approaches.
- Demonstrated written and verbal competence in presenting ideas, concepts and models clearly using persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation.
- Significant engagement and trust with Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities of practice.
- Significant knowledge of community-centered research and networks of researchers engaged in this work. Knowledge of public health and/or public policy is also required.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities. Skilled communicator, including with Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community practitioners, colleagues, and executive-level leaders. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Excellent organization, writing, presentation, and communication skills. Strong multi-tasking ability and capacity to keep up with a fast-paced and often relationship-driven work environment.
