      A non-merit vacancy exists in the Jury Commissioner Office the Circuit Court for Baltimore County with full County benefits, which includes affordable healthcare, paid sick and vacation days and paid holidays.

      Definition
      The Jury Assistant assists the Jury Commissioner and the Assistant Jury Commissioner in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and insures that efficient operations and procedures are implemented and followed in the Jury Commissioner’s Office.

      Essential Job Duties

      The Jury Assistant performs a variety of duties that are assigned on a daily basis which include, but are not limited to, the following:
      • Entering information into the data base regarding prospective Petit and Grand Jurors and answering telephone inquiries about reporting procedures and requirements
      • Assisting in the orientation and “checking-in” of new jurors by maintaining attendance and payment records
      • Coordinating with judges, court staff, and assignment personnel regarding the preparation and organization of jury panels needed for court (voir dire)
      • Maintaining files and records in the Jury Commissioner’s Office. Some public speaking may be required on a routine basis
      • The Assistant may also help in the preparation of financial reports and monthly management data related to juror service and utilization.
      • Incumbents will assist the Jury Commissioner generally in the requisition of supplies for summonses and other office related materials
      Examples of Other Duties
      Successful candidate will also perform various diversified tasks and requirements as required by the Jury Commissioner.

      Must have a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent,
      Plus
      three (3) years of clerical or secretarial experience.
      OR
      An Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree
      Plus
      one (1) year clerical, secretarial or office administration experience.

      Court related experience preferred, but not required.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
      Should have some knowledge of court procedures; must exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy and competence in dealing with judges, public officials, attorneys, the public and professional personnel. Must have a working knowledge of legal terminology, forms, methods and procedures. Should have knowledge of Word or other comparable word processing software.

      EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
      Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.

      Physical and Environmental Conditions
      The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, lifting of boxes or other limited physical activities.

      Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
      Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a physical examination that will also include urinalysis screening to ascertain that the applicant is drug free.

      Conditions of Employment
      This position is a non-merit unclassified position with the Circuit Court for Baltimore County and is subject to the personnel policies and procedures adopted by the Court.
