Job Description

- Supervise and coordinate the activities of assigned staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; ensuring staff is trained, scheduling and approving time, conducting performance evaluations; working with employees to correct deficiencies; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Prepare a variety of written reports, compile and prepare statistical reports, research and interpret laws as they apply to court operations, analyze policy directives, and stay abreast of current legislative issues and changes.
- Evaluate court security service operations and activities, recommend improvements and modifications, and prepare various operations and activities statistical reports.
- Direct, evaluate, coordinate and participate in all law enforcement activities and security activities of the Deputy City Marshals, including executing warrants, arrests and other field-related operations; court security operations and/or performing duties as bailiff, as needed.
- Administer City Marshal policies and procedures; ensure law enforcement personnel certifications and training are maintained in accordance with TCOLE standards.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and/or sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints; interface and communicate with the Municipal Court Judge, subordinate personnel and other City departments as necessary; and serve as the liaison between Municipal Court and the Police Department regarding Police personnel training on court policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Under general direction of the Municipal Court Administrator, the City Marshal supervises and oversees court security services and activities.; acts as chief security officer for the court; and assists the Court Administrator with a variety of administrative and technical functions in support of court operations.
Required:
Associate degree in law enforcement or related field, or the equivalent from an accredited college, and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience as a Texas Peace Officer; or Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of experience. Advanced Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Proficiency Certificate. Valid Texas driver’s license with a clear driving record. Knowledge of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, Penal Code, Transportation Code, Health and Safety Code, and Alcoholic Beverage Code. Ability to interpret laws and apply to job responsibilities Ability to qualify with: guns, impact weapons, handcuffs and emergency vehicle operation. Ability to work various hours, including nights, weekends and early mornings as needed Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
