- Supervises and leads staff including engineers, specialists and professionals that support a variety of areas such as the water treatment facilities, distribution, operation and maintenance systems.
- Advanced understanding of drinking water treatment standards, regulations, and public health principles.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with water treatment practices such as filtration, ozonation, UV disinfection, and chlorination. Provides input to regulatory policies and ensuring that the Treatment facility adheres to standards in ensuring safe drinking water.
- Coordinates the efforts of a multidiscipline, and sometimes multi-agency project team to complete a defined assignment or capital improvement projects as required. Thorough knowledge in engineering, water treatment, distribution system and state and federal regulatory compliance.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Ability to coach and motivate employees, encourage teamwork, and promote high standards of core service delivery.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to articulate complex issues to leadership, staff and stakeholders.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with people from diverse professional, cultural backgrounds.
- The ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is recruiting for a Civil Engineer Supervisor. The Civil Engineer Supervisor will serve as a water quality engineering program/project supervisor, supervising staff, including engineers, specialists and other professionals. Overseeing most technically complex, large, and visible/ high priority programs/projects that require a high level of technical proficiency. Also, coordinating and having administrative responsibilities in water treatment facilities projects that require extensive knowledge in engineering, water treatment, distribution system and state and federal regulatory compliance.

Experience: Minimum of six (6) years’ professional civil engineering experience, including two (2) years supervisory experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
Experience and Education Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.License, Certification and Other Requirements:

Workplace Environment: This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be required to come into the office/treatment facility three times a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
The full salary range for this position is $78.35 - $90.85 per hour.
