- Assist in creating detailed design drawings, layouts, and specifications for ground-mount and roof-mount PV systems using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PVsyst – Ground Mount, Rooftop, Helioscope, etc.).
- Perform calculations for solar array sizing, shading analysis, and electrical components (e.g., inverters, wiring).
- Support site assessments, including topographic surveys, soil analysis, and roof structural evaluations.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Ensure designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including NEC, UL standards, and permitting requirements.
- Participate in project coordination with clients, contractors, and utility companies.
- Review and revise designs based on feedback from senior engineers, clients, or permitting authorities.
- Stay informed on solar industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in: Civil Engineering (preferred), Renewable Energy, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in solar PV design or renewable energy projects (internships/co-ops count).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PVsyst – Ground Mount, Rooftop, Helioscope, and similar solar design software.
- Basic understanding of PV system components, solar energy principles, hydrology, soils, and site circulation.
- Familiarity with interpreting zoning ordinance requirements for layout and design.
- Familiarity with solar codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, or local building codes).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or NABCEP certification is a plus but not required.
- Attention to detail in design and documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
- Enthusiasm for renewable energy and sustainable design.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Learning-oriented mindset
- Must be able to read, write, speak & comprehend English
- Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone
- Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screen
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout the work shift
- Primarily office-based with occasional site visits to assess solar project locations.
- May require travel to project sites or client meetings.

SUMMARY
The Renewable Energy Designer supports the design and development of ground-mount and roof-mount photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This entry-level role involves preparing detailed drawings, performing calculations, and assisting in delivering solar projects under the guidance of senior engineers. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, passionate about renewable energy, and proficient in design software.

COMPENSATION
Salary range: $90,000 to $115,000. This is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role
The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note, the disclosed pay scale estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location where the position may be filled.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive bonus program which is dependent on various factors, including, but not limited to individual and organizational performance.
