The Opportunity: Working as a Civil/Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) for Oil Sands Projects, you will be part of a team responsible for the design of civil works including rough and final grading, roads, retaining walls, culverts, ditches, ponds, drainage and erosion control. Key Accountabilities: - Prepare detailed engineering work packages, including cost estimates for work proposals, and review bid packages to contribute to increasing cost efficiency and production - Make recommendations for changes to both new and existing civil/structural infrastructure, and through reviewing and auditing project work, assist in improving reliability, operability, maintainability, and safety - Deliver completed engineering designs and specifications based on Canadian Natural standards and provincial, national and international codes and standards - Carry out minor survey works for small new works and infrastructure modifications - Support detailed cost estimates by cost engineers for in-house engineering work - Review and comment on civil engineering bid packages - Carry out design reviews and calculations for civil/structural modification work and for load-lifting studies - Assist Maintenance team with procedures, and civil/structural clarification of engineering work packages as required (field deviations requests for standards and procedures) - Review shop drawings for engineering adequacy and suitability - Carry out squad checks on engineering drawings, documents, and calculations - Conduct audits of contractors, suppliers, and fabricators, and interface with contractors - Provide field engineering support to construction coordinators and attend project meetings Other Details: - Job location: Calgary, Alberta - Shift schedule: 5x2 – Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day - Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Regular Policy - Competitive salary, stock options, stock savings plan and benefits - This is a safety sensitive position Skills & Qualifications: - 1+ years of relevant industry experience within civil/structural discipline - Completion of a Civil/Structural Engineering degree - Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA - Experience with processing, mining, refining, upgrading, or Oil Sands facilities projects - Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office, Bluebeam, Microstation, OpenRoads and AutoCAD - Experience supporting teams such as Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Operations, and EPC contractors - Strong communication skills including a proven track record of clear and flexible communication styles - Able to expedite issues in a large multi-discipline team to work towards resolution Why Canadian Natural?
