Job Description

- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Operate motor vehicles on and off multi-level railcars
- Raise, lower, and move portable bridge plates, decks and ramps at elevated heights
- Open and close end doors on multi-level railcars weighing over 1,000 lbs
- Operating loading and unloading ramps
- Operate tie down devices on multi-level railcars in confined spaces
- Complete paperwork and mark vehicles to track their movement off the railcars
- Other duties as assigned by proper authority
- High School diploma/GED
- Valid Driver's License
- 18 years of age or older
- Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
- Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
- Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
- Classifying skills (tracking and coding information)
- Basic math
- Medium work, depending on location, ability to lift up to 50 or more pounds overhead in order to install bridge plates connecting upper deck of railcars
- Stoop, bend, kneel and crouch in confined space to release and store multi-level railcar tie down devices
- Walk the length of at least 5 railcars multiple times per hour in a typical shift
- Climb fixed ladders to 2nd and 3rd level decks multiple times per hour in a typical shift
- Balance to safely step across opening between rail cars on 2nd and 3rd level decks
- Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
- Wear protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety-toe boots, gloves, hard hats, coveralls or safety glasses
- Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
- Complete annual safety testing requirements
- Must pass all required assessments
- Must pass a background screening
- Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug test
- This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and occasionally on uneven terrain.
- Work unprotected at elevated heights

- Work under conditions that intensifies the heat factor
Job Summary
A Stevedore’s primary responsibility is to safely load and unload motor vehicles on multi-level railcars in a rail yard.

Pay Rate
Training Rate First Year: $25.91/hour
Second Year Rate: $27.71/hour
Third Year Rate: $28.96/hour
Max Pay Rate: $29.27/hour
Pay rates are per the collective bargaining agreement.
