Join Lambeth’s Highways Service as a Clerk of Works (CoW)!
Are you ready to take your career to the next level? Lambeth’s Highways Service is on the lookout for a dynamic and dedicated Clerk of Works (CoW) to join our vibrant team. As a Clerk of Works, you will be a cornerstone of our Highway Asset team, playing a crucial role in managing and monitoring the works carried out on-site by contractors, other departments, and external organizations. Your expertise will ensure that every project meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
What You’ll Do
Exciting Projects: Independently oversee small to medium-sized projects, including Highway Maintenance, Development Related Works, Highway Improvement Projects, Traffic and Transport Schemes, and large-scale urban redevelopment.
Quality Assurance: Inspect the workmanship, quality, and safety of construction activities on road work sites, ensuring adherence to legal, safety, and environmental standards.

If you have experience in supervising excavations and reinstatements, such as a Streetworks, this role is tailor-made for you! Your background in overseeing highway construction activities will be invaluable as you ensure that all works are carried out to the highest standards. Your keen eye for detail and thorough understanding of engineering drawings will help you excel in this role.
What We’re Looking For
To be considered for an interview, your Personal Statement should clearly demonstrate:
Legislative Knowledge: Familiarity with the Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991, and Traffic Management Act 2004.
Highways Expertise: A solid understanding of Highways design and construction.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and understanding engineering drawings, and experience in supervising highway construction works such as block paving, asphalt surfacing, drainage, and civils works.
Tech Savvy: Ability to use standard Office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Effective Communication: Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders.
Environmental Stewardship: Commitment to minimising ecological harm through responsible construction practices, including overseeing drainage, tree preservation, and waste disposal.
