The UT Southwestern Clinical Informatics Center is the leader in developing, implementing, and evaluating effective Clinical Informatics solutions for those in health care and the people/patients that they serve and in educating future clinical informaticians.
Experience and Education:
· Bachelor’s degree required, Masters or equivalent preferred.
· 3 to 5 years’ experience with implementing and optimizing clinical informatics or quality/patient safety improvement initiatives
· Experience with reviewing and investigating event reports and creating effective action plans
· Working knowledge of various quality improvement processes
· Experience with utilizing data analysis to drive QA/PI projects
· Licensure to practice in area of degree if applicable
· Working knowledge of the major clinical Epic Applications preferred
· PC proficiency including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Visio, Word, etc.)
· Familiarity with Vocera and Epic preferred.
· Preferred qualifications: Epic Informaticist Certification, 2+ years with Epic ASAP or Optime. 4 years on RN experience in ICU, ED or OR/Periop.
Job Duties
Primary facilitator of the process for development and optimization of order sets. Responsible for EPIC optimization projects for quality & safety involving work flow in different clinical areas.
Works closely with care providers on new workflows and helps develop meaningful and important education/tip sheets as well as just in time explanations in the EHR. Attend EHR governance meetings that have to do with UH and represent the quality perspective.
Attend working groups as needed such as lab nursing partnership and medication safety as well as other quality and safety council meetings in ad hoc fashion. Identify opportunities for more effective clinical decision support that positively impact clinical operations on the hospital. Help drive implementation of that clinical decision support or workflow optimization.
Work closely with other Quality and Safety staff on important topics such as mandatory reporting, registries, project management, medication safety, patient safety and accreditation as needed.
Maintains focus on patient safety and quality as hallmarks of the design and reporting capabilities of the EMR.
Maintains strong skills and understanding of the EMR process and project, including relevant literature review. Participates in key work groups to ensure that staff ideas and concerns are integrated.
