- In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family educational consulting and resources.
- Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required.
- Advanced skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner.
- Five years of clinical employment within the past 7 years, preferably in Vascular Surgery
- Recent clinical outpatient experience, preferably Adult Vascular Surgery
- Master's degree in nursing or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
- Registered Nurse in the State of California
- Current California licensure as an RN/NP, RN/CNS, CRNA, MHA MBA or DNP, Master of Science in Nursing
- Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist, Master of Science: Nursing or licensure / or certification in area of specialty.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification for healthcare providers
- Current American Heart Association ACLS certification
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
Job Summary
Clinical nurse leader for a program or area of nursing practice. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of focus, such as patient / family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization / system. Typically partners with the nurse manager in leading the nursing clinical practice area. This is the journey level for an advanced practice clinical nurse specialist.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $209,447 - $235,840 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
Vascular Surgery is a fast paced and rapidly evolving program. This is a specialty in which diagnostic tests and treatment, conventional open and endovascular surgeries, are provided for the treatment of state-of-the-art care for patients across the full range of vascular disorders including peripheral artery disease (PAD), aneurysms, carotid artery disease, hemodialysis access and venous disease. The program also treats less-common disorders including complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (involving the upper abdomen and chest) arterial graft infections, arterial blockage to the kidneys or intestines and thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). Vascular Surgery, nurses, advanced practice providers, technologists, coordinators, and schedulers are specially trained in coordination and provision of surgical intervention and medical management.
