What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and professionals within the health system to ensure accurate documentation of findings, diagnoses, and treatment in medical records
- Review and clarify clinical issues in health records to ensure accurate code assignment, severity of illness, and risk of mortality
- Communicate with physicians and providers to validate diagnoses and clinical indicators, and prompt for documentation improvement if necessary
- Apply knowledge of coding standards to evaluate medical records
- Educate physicians and key healthcare providers on best practice clinical documentation
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Registered RN license in the State of DE (or compact state)
- Strong medical terminology and clinical awareness
- Effective communication and clinical skills
- Clinical Documentation Certification (CCDS) required within 1 year of eligibility
- Minimum of 3 years recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting preferred
- Complete a minimum of 8 continuing education credits (CEU's) per year in Clinical Documentation Improvement
