      Overview:

      The Extern Mentor/Coordinator is responsible for the successful implementation and support of the HHR programs initiated by the Ministry of Health.

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      Accountability #1: Recruitment and Program Support

      • Works in collaboration with Human Resources, Finance, Professional Practice, Managers of Patient Care Services (MPCS) and the Recruitment and Retention Committee; to implement and maintain recruitment processes of Ministry of Health HHR programs at all ROHCG sites.
      • Investigates and plans new HHR opportunities and programs.
      • Supports and expands existing HHR programs, including the SPEP for IENs and the Clinical Extern programs.
      • Participates in the assessment and evaluation of Clinical Externs and the other HHR program candidates to ensure patient safety and quality care is maintained as per current policies and procedures
      • Tracks HHR experiences to maximize link with potential employment of regulated positions within the organization.

      Accountability #2: Education Support

      • Works and supports the MPCS and Registered Nursing Staff who support Externs in their clinical positions.
      • Provides supervision, guidance and consultation to Externs and Programs for optimal clinical opportunities and patient care.
      • Acts as a resource and mentor for Externs and other HHR program participants. Participates in orientation and onboarding experiences for Externs and continued support.

      Accountability #3: u00A0Other

      • Supports the Nursing Professional Practice department meet organizational needs as required.
      • Ensures all HHR program requirements are met.
      • Works in a manner that is in compliance with staff and client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
      • Ensures a work environment that is conducive to The Royalu2019s Anti-Racism, Harassment &u00A0Discrimination Free Workplace Policy
      • All other duties as required.

      Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

      • Baccalaureate or Masters degree in Nursing
      • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required
      • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
      • CPR, NCI, CPMHN(C) an asset but not required
      • Recent clinical nursing experience in mental health and addictions
      • Demonstrated leadership, program development, and education skills.
      • Experienced/Knowledgeable in project management, research and evaluation principles.
      • Knowledgeable of computers including Office 365 (i.e., Word, Powerpoint, Excel), data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, NVIVO) and/or Graphic programs to develop education materials.
      • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
      • Teaching and consulting skills.
      • Excellent communication skills u2013 oral & written.
      • Proven ability in working effectively with all members of health care team.
      • Ability to determine feasibility of educational or clinical initiatives.
      • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
