      Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for ST3 and above Clinical Fellows aiming to achieve specialist registration in Anaesthetics through the CESR equivalence route in the South East London region.

The CESR programme will run over a period of 1 to 4 years, depending on the candidate's needs and the availability of training spaces in participating hospitals. It will include working across three hospitals: Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (including Evelina Paediatric Hospital), Lewisham General Hospital, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital will be the main employer, but the Clinical fellows will have their time divided roughly equally between GSTT and Lewisham hospitals, with a 3-month rotation for neuro-anaesthesia at NHNN if required.

The programme consists of structured rotation through all stage 2 and 3 anaesthetic modules to allow the fellow to accrue the required evidence needed for a successful CESR application.

      Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be working alongside our existing trainee anaesthetists with the same rotational opportunities to gain the necessary experience to support a CESR application. They will be spending half of their time working in an elective clinical setting and half of their time participating in the on-call service rota matched to their experience to date and experience requirements.

The post offers a mix of clinical training, teaching and supervised service experience. There are also ample opportunities for audit, QI, teaching and management experienced. On call commitments will be on a full shift pattern of 1:8 rotating within the anaesthetic departments of the hospital sites. Specific on call duties at the individual sites will depend on the fellow's individual experience and the requirements of the site.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
