- Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. BS in Nursing or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum three years of recent hospital/ambulatory healthcare experience, required. Three Years Multidisciplinary experience in “high risk/high volume” areas, e.g., emergency department, operating room, Labor and Delivery or intensive care, preferred.
- Licensure/certification/registration: Registered Nurse, required.
- Additional skills required:
- Must possess excellent critical thinking, communication, leadership, organizational, and problem solving.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office products. Understanding of personal computers and database management.
- Ability to present statistical information and event timelines in a concise manner.
- Good knowledge of chart abstraction processes.
- Good understanding of patient identification processes and components in patient management.
- Working knowledge of nursing documentation practices and resource tools.
- Acute awareness of confidentiality of information collected, analyzed and presented.
- Ability to successfully complete generic, department, and database-specific skills.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10 diagnosis and ICD-10 procedure codes.
- Data analysis and data presentation skills.

Job SummaryThis position requires clinical knowledge to ensure that the inpatient and ambulatory peer review process is effective in evaluating issues related to professional practice. The Medical Staff Peer Review RN is responsible for coordinating & facilitating Novant Health Medical Staff Peer Review committees, including participation in Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) applicable to scope of responsibilities, and activities across defined departments. Provides leadership and support to assure the Medical Staff Peer Review process and Peer Review Committees are effective in evaluating issues related to professional practice. The Medical Staff Peer Review RN works closely with Medical Staff leadership, Medical Staff Services, and Central Verification Office providing accurate clinical summaries, data base management, reports and analysis. Assures confidentiality and full protection of all written, verbal, and electronic discussions and documentation associated with the work product of peer review, OPPE, FPPE and all Medical Staff quality activities associated with the duties and responsibilities of this position.
