- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
- Membership of the British Psychological Society / Division of Clinical Psychology / Faculty of Clinical Health Psychology
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
- Knowledge of clinical health psychology models / psychological aspects of illness.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
- High level knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological approaches for specific problems (e.g. personality disorder, traumatic and adjustment reactions, adherence difficulties etc ).
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist tojoin our Major Trauma Centre at St George's Hospital. This role provides an opportunity to work with patients with serious and life changing injuries, their families and staff members working within the Major Trauma service.
The post holder will have the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team where psychology is valued and well established. Alongside active clinical role, the post holder will have opportunities to shape and develop psychological care pathways within the Major Trauma Centre as part of the Integrated Psychological Model of Care pilot.

Main duties of the job
The existing Clinical Psychology Service within the Major Trauma Centre at St. George's Hospital was established in May 2012 and it forms an important part of the Major Trauma service, supporting adult-aged patients across the entire service and hospital site. Alongside staff teaching/training and consultation, clinical work is conducted with individual patients and their families. This work includes:o Helping people to make sense of their current thoughts, feelings and reactions in the context of their previous experience, the accident/assault, serious injury, medication andthe hospital environment.o Providing psychoeducation on psychological reactions post trauma, management ofdistress and coping with pain and invasive medical procedureso Assisting with problem-solving of current difficultieso Exploring barriers to engagement in rehabilitationo Supporting use of coping resources and resiliencieso Liaising with the wider multi-disciplinary team around preparation for discharge.
The majority of the face-to-face clinical work takes place on the trauma wards, in ICU or during joint rehabilitation sessions. This provides an opportunity to work creatively to deliver effective clinical psychology interventions.
