- To provide a high specialist clinical psychology service within the Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
- To take a lead and coordinate some of the multidisciplinary pathways in the CLDT
- supervise and support clinical psychological assessment and intervention provided by other psychologists, including recently qualified psychologists, behaviour specialist practitioners, assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists
- To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for clinical practice within a current caseload.
- To utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and clinical research.
- In agreement with the Operational Clinical Lead for Learning Disabilities and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, to propose and implement policy and service changes for the CLDT, Trust and other local partner agencies.
- oDoctorate training in clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS including specifically working with adults with Intellectual Disabilities, formulation , clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- oRegistered with the HCPC
- Post-doctoral training in one or more other additional specialised areas of psychological practice relevant to learning disability services (e.g. systemic, PBS...)
- oDoctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including specifically working with adults with intellectual disabilities, formulation, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- oHighly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for adults with intellectual disabilities with complex needs (Autism, trauma, mental health needs...)
- oKnowledge of legislation, policy and professional guidance relevant to Learning disability services and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management.
- oEvidence of continuing professional development relevant to the role.
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of positive behaviour support.
- oExperience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with people with intellectual disabilities presenting with a range of clinical needs.
- Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive situations.
- oExperience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and interventions both professionally and within the context of multidisciplinary care planning.

Clinical Psychologist/Learning Disabilities

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities living in Croydon and promote the best outcomes possible? We are looking for a passionate clinical psychologist, ready to take their leadership skills to the next level, as an exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time permanent position in the Croydon Community Learning Disabilities Team.
The successful candidate will have a strong skillset working with people with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions, trauma histories, and mental-health issues, and will be highly experienced in working within a Positive Behaviour Support model. The facilitation of consultation, teaching and training, is an integral part of the role.
The successful applicant will join a highly valued Psychology service as part of the multidisciplinary team for adults with intellectual disabilities, based in the heart of Croydon. We provide a psychological service to adults with intellectual disabilities with mental health needs, and/or behaviours that challenge.
Continuing Professional Development is actively supported and clinicians are encouraged to develop areas of special interest and contribute to service innovation. We have close links with the Psychology Doctorate Training Course at Salomons and Surrey University and regularly support a number of trainee placements.
