      Under general supervision, the Clinical Research Assistant working in the Heart Center Clinical Research Program will coordinate daily operations of:
      • The primary study involves adolescents with congenital heart disease in a randomized, placebo-controlled drug trial. The clinical research assistant will be responsible for patient outreach, conducting and coordinating study visits, collecting data, entering data, and managing regulatory tasks associated with the study.
      • Other ongoing research studies involve adolescents with acquired or congenital heart disease in clinical trials. The Clinical Research Assistant may be responsible for the same tasks in these studies, as delegated by the Principal Investigators.
      This is a two-year position with the goal to provide the incumbent with the skills and experience to further their career in medicine. The position will provide opportunities to be included in the publication of manuscripts.

      Primary responsibilities of the Clinical Research Assistant:
      • Assists Principal Investigators (PIs) in developing and implementing new clinical research studies and in executing ongoing research studies.
      • Coordinates and prepares new protocol applications for submission to the Heart Center’s Scientific Review Committee, the Boston Children's Hospital IRB, and a central IRB at Cincinnati Children’s. Prepares and submits continuing reviews and protocol amendments to the IRB for ongoing studies. Corresponds with the IRB.
      • Coordinates regular meetings with the research teams, including creating the meeting agenda and writing summary documents.
      • Recruits study participants for enrollment in clinical research studies.
      • Completes data collection through medical record review or through patient visits (study-dependent). Enters clinical data into existing databases in accordance with best practice methods.
      • Maintains regulatory binders, case report forms, source documents, and other study documents.
      • Complies with all institutional policies and government regulations pertaining to human subjects protections.

      Requirements:
      • A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a background in university level science courses would be helpful.
      • Research skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
      • Excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to keep meticulous records are required.
      • Prior experience in clinical research and IRB preparation is preferred.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Zoom/Microsoft Teams and the ability to learn individual protocol-specific software and web-based systems (i.e., RedCap) are strongly preferred
