- Provide novice nurses, including new nursing graduates, Temporary Class Nurses, IENs, and nurses new to specialized areas, with at the bedside clinical support;
- Provide support using clinical teaching following Adult Learning Principles;
- Ground all clinical teaching to THP’s policies & procedures, protocols & guidelines;
- Facilitate the documentation of clinical skills, procedures and patient care in the EPIC, Computer Documentation System;
- Lead overall design, delivery, coordination and evaluation of the Clinical Scholar Program;
- Facilitate integration of novice nurses at the organizational and unit level, serving as a liaison between unit/program leadership and Professional Practice;
- Create, adapt and deliver clinical teaching, education, drawing on innovations and best practices in clinical learning;
- Maintain regular unit presence to support novice nurse transitions to clinical environments, assessing and addressing ongoing learning needs;
- Actively mentor novice nurses, coaching through new experiences and supporting their professional career growth;
- Collaborate with unit leadership and staff to ensure good role clarity and team processes with novice nurses to provide high quality, patient and family-centered care;
- Promote wellness and team well-being through approaches such as the development of peer-to-peer networks;
- Ability to lead through changing and ambiguous environment;
- Collect data and key performance metrics to demonstrate outcomes and value of the program;
- Support other corporate initiatives to support education and professional development of the nursing workforce at THP.
- RN registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the General Class;
- Minimum 10 -15 years clinical experience acute care, with experience in medicine, surgery, critical care and emergency areas, preferred;
- Previous experience as a clinical educator, instructor or placement supervisor preferred;
- Completion of Charge Nurse Training and Preceptorship Workshop, required;
- Strong understanding of adult learning and change management techniques in clinical settings;
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and provide feedback to novice nurses and learners, while fostering a positive work culture;
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of THP’s resources;
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, decision making, problem-solving and conflict resolutions skills;
- Strong organizational, project management, and prioritization skills;
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment;
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing;
- Evidence of ongoing professional development, and continuous learning;
- Satisfactory attendance and performance required.

Reporting to the Manager- Workforce Planning and Transition to Practice, Professional Practice Department, the Clinical Scholar/Coach, will provide clinical support and coaching to newly graduated nurses, Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN), and nurses seeking to upskill in a new clinical area. The successful candidate is committed to supporting experiential learning & development, patient-centered care design and has a passion for leading the growth and development of new nurses in the interprofessional setting.
We are seeking a dynamic candidate who possesses excellent clinical skills and competencies, demonstrates experience in supporting new nurses through preceptorship & mentorship initiatives, and demonstrates leadership, change management and problem-solving skills. Further, the successful candidate consistently demonstrates our values of compassion, excellence and courage when leading the delivery of an exceptional patient experience.
