      The paediatric department are looking to recruit to one Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow to join their department on a fixed term basis for 12 months.

      We are delighted to offer this exciting post that will enable the appointee to gain invaluable teaching experience. This post is being created to nurture our vision of improving our successful undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programmes. This post will offer opportunities for the successful candidate to gain practical experience of delivering teaching sessions and learn latest evidence based medical education practices.

      The Clinical Teaching fellow post is based at Morriston Hospital. Paediatric Inpatient services in Swansea are on the Morriston Hospital site. Day time duties will involve delivery and planning of undergraduate and post graduate education.

      You will also be required to participate in a 1:10 general paediatric rota with prospective cover.

      This is a fixed-term post for 12 months (with potential to extend subject to funding).

      Main duties of the job

      The candidate will benefit from access to resources and support from the medical school and will be encouraged to undertake a formal postgraduate qualification in medical education, for which courses are offered by Swansea University. Study leave will be readily granted for this activity

      This post is suitable for doctors who wish to gain formal teaching experience in a department that works closely with Swansea University Medical School. The post is a full-time appointment, but applications from doctors wishing to work on a part-time basis will also be welcomed.

      Travelling between Hospital/Clinic sites may be required to undertake duties. In exceptional circumstances it may also be necessary to undertake duties at other locations with the Health Board.

      You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional, unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Where such duties take place outside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalent off duty period or will be remunerated appropriately.

      About us

      Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

      Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.

      Swansea is Wales' second largest city and sits on the five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay. An ideal base for exploring South-West Wales, there is also much on offer for visitors in Swansea itself. Swansea has a range of shops, cosy cafes, great restaurants, art galleries as well as being able to offer good outdoor lifestyle with its beautiful coastline and beaches on the Gower Peninsula. Swansea also has excellent sporting facilities including the Wales National pool and stadium home to the Ospreys and Swansea City Football Club.
