Job summary
The main purpose of the post is to support senior leaders in SPFT Medical Education to deliver an exciting and inspiring undergraduate psychiatry teaching programme to year 3 and year 5 BSMS medical students.
The financial resource for this post comes from our ability to use funds that would otherwise be used to pay for locum cover of on call rotas and unfilled GP or FY2 posts, therefore clinical work - including on call - is a mandatory part of the role. Clinical placements will be in areas where there are vacancies - these regions are Brighton and Hove, North West Sussex and East Sussex. The post holder could expect to work in different roles and locations over the course of their time with the trust.
We see this post as being a perfect springboard into specialty training and we will support the post-holder with portfolio preparation, interview practice and project completion as needed. Outside of BSMS term time, it may be possible to offer 'taster' days in psychiatric specialties, such as CAMHS, perinatal psychiatry, early intervention in psychosis, forensic psychiatry, learning disabilities, liaison psychiatry or older adult psychiatry, in order to assist the post-holder in understanding the full breadth of psychiatric practice. The medical education team sees career mentoring of the post-holder as a core aspect of hosting this post.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
