- Education
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or
Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy - Experience
3 years of recent critical care experience as an occupational therapist and/or physical therapist or
2 years of demonstrated leadership experience and/or advanced degree achievement such as an MBA.
1 year of previous supervisory, charge or relevant therapist experience. - Licenses and Certifications

Licensed to practice Occupational Therapists Upon Hire or
Licensed to practice Physical Therapists Upon Hire - Adheres to and facilitates adherence by other personnel to all policies and procedures, APTA/AOTA Clinical Practice Guidelines, Code of Ethics, and nationally recognized standards of practice. Supports clinical, operational, and facility services by coordinating operations and personnel activities to meet all objectives of Acute Therapy Services, UTSW Hospital, and Health System.
- Assist in daily patient caseload assignments during shifts, adjusting as needed to address specific patient needs on a shift-by-shift basis. Additionally, ensuring financial stewardship is a key responsibility, contributing to the effective management of resources within the department.
- Coordinates staffing efforts with other departments within UTSW Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Implements necessary adjustments to staffing levels based on fluctuations in census and patient acuity to ensure the safe delivery of care.
- Assists in the day-to-day operations and systems that deliver services, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and demonstrating sound judgment. Serves as the administrative and operational resource to uphold high standards of service delivery.
- Serves as a role model for proactive problem-solving and self-sufficiency, collaborating with staff to effectively resolve identified issues during shifts. Intervenes and problem-solves inter- and intra-departmental issues, facilitating communication, negotiation, and decision-making between departments. Utilizes the chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues as needed. Advocates for patients and staff to ensure the safe delivery of care and a secure environment.
- Coordinates personal self-scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage for departmental needs. Demonstrates scheduling flexibility and willingly provides coverage during shifts in cases of staffing crises or shortages. Maintains direct care clinical competency.
- Actively participates in monthly and service line staff meetings, quick hits and special projects, and the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Communicates data and solicits input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement, including patient safety and infection control.
- Assists with the responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care. Solicits staff input regarding equipment and supply needs for the unit
- Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY
The Acute Therapy Supervisor oversees, organizes, and coordinates clinical services within the acute therapy department to ensure the delivery of exceptional evidence-based occupational and physical therapy interventions and treatments. Responsibilities include providing supervision to occupational and physical therapy staff, as well as therapy technicians, to ensure adherence to appropriate procedures and policies while delivering clinical services and maintaining high standards of quality and PACT standards. The Acute Therapy Supervisor assists with chart audits, conducts team interviews, and participates in environment of care and safety rounds to uphold regulatory compliance. Assists in patient-related service recovery processes, ensuring prompt resolution of any service-related issues. The Acute Therapy Supervisor also provides scheduling assistance to optimize departmental efficiency. The supervisor actively contributes to the development, implementation, and oversight of evidence-based therapeutic patient care services, maintaining thorough knowledge of the supervised functional area while ensuring adherence to facility and departmental and institutional policies and procedures.BENEFITS

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Clinical Experience:
• 5-10 years in acute care or hospital-based therapy, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership, supervisory, or charge role.
Clinical Skill Sets:
• Proven competency in acute care therapy, including ICU, step-down, and complex medical/surgical units.
• Experience with early mobility programs, ventilator-dependent patients, and complex discharge planning.
• Strong background in functional assessments(AM-PAC, SPPB, etc), goal-setting, and interdisciplinary care coordination.
• Familiarity with clinical pathways and protocols (e.g., ERAS, stroke, orthopedic, or cardiac programs).
• Ability to mentor staff in clinical reasoning, documentation standards, and outcome measures.
Leadership & Operational Skills:
• Demonstrated strength in staff supervision, scheduling, and performance management.
• Ability to mentor and develop early-career clinicians.
• Comfort with EMR systems (Epic preferred) and clinical documentation standards.
• Strong collaboration with nursing and physician leadership to support throughput and patient flow.
• Commitment to compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
