GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
The counselor is primarily responsible for providing assessments, education and individual and group counseling for persons with substance use disorders enrolled in MMRS’s treatment Programs. The therapist functions as the primary therapist for the clients in the programs to which they are assigned. The counselor works closely with the client, other program staff and agency referral sources to create and implement a comprehensive person-centered treatment plan and coordinate services.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conducts assessments and provides diagnoses.
• Conducts education and didactic group sessions.
• Develops and facilitates implementation of person-centered treatment planning and ongoing treatment direction for assigned clients.
• Recommends scope and duration of care including extensions, terminations and/or alternative treatment options for clients.
• Secures all necessary pre-authorizations and/or authorizations to assure payment for services rendered.
• Formulates a comprehensive clinical assessment and makes treatment recommendations.
• Maintains up-to-date clinical documentation, related correspondence and reports in full compliance with agency, licensing and accreditation standards (i.e.
intakes, assessments, clinical summaries, treatment plans, progress notes, case reviews, discharge summaries and continuing care plans).
• Provides written progress reports for referral sources as requested.
• Participates in Clinical Group Supervision, Clinical Staff Meetings, committees, general staff meetings and other agency activities as requested and/or assigned.
• Establishes and maintains familiarity and promotes positive relationships with referral agencies and community resources.
• Strictly adheres to all federal and state laws, rules, regulations and MMRS policies and procedures regarding HIPAA and the confidentiality of client information
and client rights.
• Promotes MMRS philosophy and mission through personal attitudes, actions and behaviors.
• Demonstrates personal and professional integrity, diversity awareness and cultural competency in all interactions with others.
• Earns a minimum of 12 CEU’s annually through participating in staff development activities to maintain clinical credentials and facilitate professional
development.
• Maintains license and certifications in good standing during term of employment.
• Maintains caseload and scheduled client contact activities to ensure a 55% utilization rate.
• Complies with agencies conflict resolution protocols.
• Essential service health care provider. Additional stress and risk during critical situations commensurate with our license and scope of practice to protect the
health and safety of clients.
• Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Master’s degree in Social Work or related field and possess or be able to receive (have an approved development plan) the Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor (CAADC) credential through MCBAP. Must be licensed by the State of Michigan.
Must demonstrate a thorough understanding and knowledge of the dynamics of substance use disorders and demonstrate integrity and cultural competence in working with diverse populations. One year experience working with persons with substance use disorders preferred.About the company
