      You will serve as a Clothing Designer in the Navy Clothing & Textile Research Facility of NAVAL EXCH SERVICE COMMAND.
      The duty station is Natick, MA.
      The primary mission of NCTRF is to develop, test, and evaluate uniforms and protective clothing worn by Navy Sailors

      Duties


      • You will serve as a Senior Level Clothing Designer and Technical Expert.
      • You will plan, organize, and guide extensive development, design, and production programs.
      • You will direct, plan, and develop experimental designs for clothing, hand wear, and accessories for specific mission programs.
      • You will review and evaluate prototype samples.
      • You will oversee fit and wear tests.
      • You will write and evaluate proposals for new programs.
      • You will determine the personnel, funds and time required for completion of proposed projects.
      • You will review and analyze uniform sizing systems.

      Requirements


      • Must be a US Citizen.
      • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

      Qualifications


      Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience at the or equivalent to the next lowest grade (GS-12) or pay band in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, which has equipped you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Such specialized experience is experience in the design and development of dress uniforms to include highly tailored coats and outer garments or specialized occupational clothing for a particular functional or occupational purpose which demonstrated knowledge of layout and fabrication methods pattern making and grading; Performing complex and novel clothing design assignments using broad knowledge and a high degree of judgment and resourcefulness to develop plans of action from broad objective; devising new or improved methods to overcome problems where precedents and guides are lacking; AND Performing duties including: 1) Analyzing and evaluating sizing systems and design proposals; 2) Providing technical guidance to other designers; 3) Serving as a project lead in the formulation, planning, organizing, and conducting projects to develop uniforms and protective garments; 4) Directing the fabrication of prototypes models for test purposes; 5) Reviewing and evaluating available garments, technical characteristics, design studies, and clothing integration to select materials for the applicable end item application; 6) Conducting fit and wear tests; 7) Preparing technical data and specification for approved garments; 8) Representing the agency/company at meetings in which research and development proposals, problems, and progress are discussed/resolved.

      In addition to meeting the specialized experience you must meet the Basic Requirement for Clothing Designer in the federal service which means that you must possess Undergraduate or Graduate Education with a Major study in textile technology, tailoring, clothing design, clothing production, anthropometry, anatomy, or physiology.
      OR
      Possess experience in the design and development of highly tailored outer garments or specialized occupational clothing such as aviators' and paratroopers' clothing, submarine escape suits, coveralls, field jackets, helmets, footgear, or other clothing for a particular functional or occupational purpose. Experience must have demonstrated knowledge of layout and fabrication methods. Experience must have involved primarily pattern making or grading.
