      GM Technology & Major Cap Group | ICT Division | Architecture Design & Security | Technology Architecture Section

      Architecture, Design and Security Branch Overview:

      The Architecture, Design and Security Branch is located within the Technology and Major Capability Group (TMCG) and responsible for setting the strategic technology direction for the Department, enabling alignment between technology strategies and business needs. The Branch works closely with the business and other stakeholders to provide guidance and support to architecture design, delivery and sustainment decisions.

      Technology Architecture Section Overview:

      The Technology Architecture section in the Architecture, Design and Security branch delivers strategic technology leadership, and provides governance and design services to Home Affairs for Infrastructure technology deployment and use. The Technology Architecture section is looking to hire an EL2 Cloud Technology Architect and an EL2 Infrastructure Architect.

      Our ideal candidate

      We are seeking a dynamic, passionate and determined technology architecture professional with a strong record for infrastructure design outcomes who has:

      • Proven ability to define vision, strategy, standards and guidelines for an architecture domain ensuring consistency with industrial and whole of government policies and standards.
      • Proven ability to provide senior executive level advice to shape strategic thinking, translate business strategy and objectives into operating models driven by complex architectures.
      • Proven ability to delivers strategic architecture leadership, and provides governance and design services to Home Affairs for technology deployment and use.
      • Strong understanding and ability to use professional experience and domain knowledge to mentor and guide team members, model best practice and behaviour and continually demonstrate high performance and self-development.

      Duties and responsibilities

      The EL2 Cloud Technology Architect will be responsible for:

      • Leading development of technology architecture in a hybrid cloud environment, researching cloud services and platforms, and developing target state cloud architectural patterns ensuring alignment with best practices, cost optimisation and business goals.
      • Crafting and executing strategies, and solution designs for optimizing technology costs, balancing performance, scalability, and savings.
      • Examining cloud spend trends, uncovering savings opportunities, and implementing cost optimization initiatives.
      • Developing, researching and leading appropriate architectural artefacts as per governance processes.
      • Establishing procedural and technical guardrails to ensure alignment with patterns. Additionally, identify cost trends, anomalies, and budget tracking, and establish technical guardrails to manage and monitor cloud cost.

      The EL2 Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for:

      • Defining, designing and leading the vision, strategy, roadmap and development of on-premises infrastructure capabilities (Storage, Compute, Network or Platforms).
      • Advanced specialist and professional knowledge to integrate ICT Infrastructure solutions within the Department utilising multi-disciplined technology skills in order to ensure compliance with architectural principles and practices.
      • Collaborating and partnering with key stakeholders to achieve key objectives.
      • Providing subject matter infrastructure architecture advice and leadership for current and future trends.
      • Developing, researching and leading appropriate architectural artefacts and ensure adherence to governance processes.

      Additional information

      Desired experience and qualifications:

      EL2 Cloud Technology Architect role:

      • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or field or equivalent industry recognised certifications.
      • Demonstrated ability and multiple years of experience in cloud architecture (private, public, multi cloud, or hybrid) and cloud financial operations.
      • Demonstrated ability and experience in AWS and Azure cloud platform solutions including cloud migration programs.
      • Demonstrated understanding of architectural frameworks, governance processes, and understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies associated with architecture disciple.
      • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement across ICT and business stakeholders across the Department and Portfolio agencies.

      EL2 Infrastructure Architect role:

      • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or field or equivalent industry recognised certifications.
      • Demonstrated ability and multiple years of experience with infrastructure architecture across a wide range of technology domains such as datacentres, computer hardware, infrastructure platforms, networking systems, storage, surveillance and communication systems, and integration systems, within an enterprise ICT environment commensurate with Home Affairs.
      • Knowledge of technology & enabling architecture vertical domain as well as the horizontal enterprise integration, security, cyber, and ICT infrastructure architecture domains.
      • Demonstrated understanding of architectural frameworks, governance processes, and understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies associated with architecture disciple.
      • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement across ICT and business stakeholders.

      To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
