Program and operate CNC milling machines, preference given to candidates with experience on Haas VF mills.

Create NC programs using CAM software, preferably Solidworks CAM.

Read and interpret blueprints (including GD&T and basic dimensions) and other technical documents.

Design and fabricate or procure appropriate machine fixturing and material holding.

Use technical measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometer, scales, etc.

Convert print dimensions from Metric to Inch or Inch to Metric.

Ensure work area, machine, tooling, and parts are cleaned regularly and free from excess oil deposits; maintains a clean work area.

Adhere to Safety Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

Participate in project planning activities, estimation, and schedule development.

Support and/or lead preventative maintenance needs for fabrication equipment.

Mentor and support the development of junior-level engineers on the team.

Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop component and/or assembly designs.

Support DFM (design for manufacturability) activities across multiple programs.
- Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience. Additional six (6) years' experience may be considered in lieu of degree (per contract vehicle).
- Must possess an active Secret security clearance or have the ability to obtain one; US Citizenship required.
- Proficient using Solidworks CAD, MS Windows, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio).
- Experience programming CNC mills and lathes from 3D CAD models, preferably using Solidworks CAM.
- Familiar with feeds/speeds to maximize accuracy, quality, and efficiency.
- Prefer experience developing military weapon components and/or systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must have proven can-do attitude and willingness to help the team succeed.
Description
SAIC has an opening for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer within our Defense and Civilian Sector to support System Integration activities for the US Army. This position is a member of our Mechanical Analysis, Design, and Engineering (MADE) team and will be a significant contributor to our in-house Fabrication Shop in Huntsville, AL.
Job Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer must have experience in supporting a multi-disciplinary fabrication shop with proficiency in CNC mill and lathe programming, fixture concepts and design, cutter types, tool path, and more. Experience with manual mills and lathes, welding, water jets, and assembly is also desirable. Candidate must be able to interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, and have a basic understanding of Quality Inspection techniques.
