- Applies broad knowledge of healthcare economics, including federal and state payment systems and regulation, as well as private insurance issues, payor mix, and benchmark data.
- Maintains knowledge of current clinical practice and can articulate patient care standards as published by the DNV/JCACHO (regulatory agency), CMS, and professional nursing literature.
- Understands, articulates, and ensures compliance with the state’s nursing legislation and state board regulations, regulatory agency standards, and organization policies.
- Monitors and educates others in relation to health care policy and interprets the impact of state and federal regulations on nursing in the organization.
- Participates in the governance of the organization by presenting patient care issues to the governing body, participating in strategic planning, and representing nursing at the organizations governing body.
- Supports the development and implementation of organization-wide patient safety programs.
- Analyzes financial statements, manages financial resources, and educates team members on financial implications of patient care decisions. Reads and interprets benchmarking, financial, and occupancy data.

- MSN or related field
- 10 years of nursing experience
- 5 years of clinical management
- Current, valid state of Illinois license to practice professional nursing

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The CNO is a registered professional nurse with comprehensive responsibility for the assessment, problem identification, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of all processes which impact the quality and quantity of care delivered to the patients at their assigned facility. Reporting to the SVP of Clinical Operations, the CNO is responsible for employing strategies to foster health promotion, health teaching, and the provision of educational services and resources. Provides consultation to influence identified plans, enhance the abilities of others, and affects change in the organization. Evaluation of outcomes is completed to assure that the quality of practice delivered by the facility is directed at improving care delivery and population outcomes. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues and collaborates with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Assures the integration of ethical provisions in all areas of practice, integrates research findings into practice, and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact of resources utilized in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services. Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession and acts as an advocate for the protection and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nurses, and other professions and institutions and organizations, especially related to health and safety. Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, and the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
