      FTE: 1.0
      Schedule: Monday – Friday
      Location: Remote (only within approved states: FL, GA, MO, PA, SC, TN, and TX)

      Position Summary:

      Under minimal technical or managerial supervision, the Coder I assigns codes to diagnoses and/or procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 for observation, ambulatory surgeries, outpatient procedures, outpatient clinics, and emergency room encounters. This role may also research medical necessity as needed and requires a solid working knowledge of Medicare Local Medical Review Policies (LMRPs).


      Qualifications

      Education:

      • Required: High School Diploma or GED. Specific coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, or other related coursework.

      • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management/Medical Record Administration. Equivalent healthcare college degrees may also be considered.

      Experience:

      • Required: Six (6) months of acute care hospital outpatient coding experience.

      • Preferred: At least one (1) year of experience coding emergency room and outpatient clinical records in a large acute care teaching facility.

      Licensure/Certifications:

      • Required (Effective September 22, 2025) at hire/transfer: One of the following:

        1. RHIA/RHIT

        2. CCS

        3. CCA

        4. CPC-H

        5. CPC

      • Required for current incumbents (by December 1, 2025): One of the above certifications.

      • Preferred: N/A

      Necessary Skills:

      1. Proficient PC knowledge

      2. Strong written and oral communication and customer service skills

      3. Detail-oriented, organized, and flexible

      4. Demonstrates initiative and meets minimum productivity standards

      5. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology and ability to adapt to changing priorities


      Education:
