      Position Overview: The Coffee Lab & Logistics Manager is the focal point for all coffee needs at Verve’s Coffee Lab. They are responsible for and oversee the entirety of the coffee lab. This position communicates and executes strategies to organize, systematize, and Quality Control all of the green coffee samples and lab work needed for Verve. The Coffee Lab Manager will work directly with the Green Coffee Buyer and Head of Coffee, assisting in the organization of all green purchases. They oversee all Cuppings, Quality Analysis of Green, Sample Roasting, and Cropster Data Entry. Additionally, they work closely with the roasting team to ensure production roasts are being QC’d, the green coffee movement is well timed and documented for company finance tracking, and green information is updated and organized for all coffees.

      Responsibilities:

      • Support the success of the Green Coffee Department
      • Organize all of the Cropster entries for new arrivals, coffee launches, and data analysis
      • Associate green buyer in training
      • Perform and meticulously analyze, record, and share physical (moisture, density, water activity, color scores) and sensorial quality data of green coffee (qualitative and quantitative) using company tools and the industry's best practice.
      • Track and process green coffee invoices
      • Host and attend cuppings for Coffee Department and for a variety of audiences, internal and otherwise
      • Manage certification requests from importers, exporters, and other partners
      • Act as an in-house coffee expert, creating and delivering internal education through cross-departmental training, company communications, and general support
      • Auditcoffee-related copies and training materials for accuracy
      • Communicate and tracks the movement of Green Coffee containers to ensure smooth coffee launches monthly
      • Maintain and oversee certification documentation as defined by each certifying body (Organic, Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, etc)
      • Spearhead additional certification requests for the department as identified by the Head of Coffee.
      • Create workflows and SOPs for green coffee data entry and lab activities
      • Submit DO (Direct Order) request to Annex for transportation to Verve SC and CCS ( Verve Ventura )
      • Enter all cupping data into Cropster from arrival samples, offers, production roasts, etc.
      • Partner cross-functionally with all departments to build awareness and provide coffee education
      • Manage coffee Quality Control & Quality Assurance control functions and initiatives for consistency and continuous improvement inside the coffee lab
      • A representative of the Food Safety Team taking care of Green Coffee needs as related to recall plans and other protocols
      • Provide support for coffee logistics with Verve Japan by working with the Green Coffee Department to develop menus, execute sampling programs, and coordinate importing/exporting
      • Provide coffee guidance and help support to other departments through collaboration
      • Continually acquire coffee knowledge and education that can be incorporated into our practices
      • Participate in crafting the future of coffee
      • Act as brand ambassador for the company at tradeshows and events
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Coffee, including special projects

      Qualifications:

      • Ability to travel to Origin and learn from the Green Coffee Buyer to help them better learn how Verve approaches coffee sourcing/buying
      • Valid California Driver's License
      • Ability to travel as needed.
      • Clean Motor Vehicle Record, and comfortable driving large sprinter vans
      • Leads by example and willing to work in a hands-on environment

      • Must be approachable, mindful, and positive
      • Extraordinary written and verbal communication skills

      • Ability to learn new systems quickly and with ease
      • Must have or be willing to obtain forklift certification
      • Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted

      Experience:

      • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
      • 3 years management experience
      • 1-3 years administrative experience within Cropster
      • Prior experience with Google Workspace, Excel, QuickBooks, Access, VisualCron, Shopify and Shipstation a plus

      Pay & Benefits:

      • $65,000-$75,000
