      MAIN FUNCTION:

      The Cold Storage Warehouse superintendent is responsible for overseeing all cold storage operations, ensuring the safe and efficient handling, storage, and shipping of large volumes of beef products. This role is accountable for maintaining inventory integrity through rigorous cycle counting and reporting while ensuring compliance with all government regulations, corporate standards, and food safety requirements. The Superintendent leads and supports the Shipping, Receiving, Warehouse, and Inventory teams with a focus on safety, product quality, operational efficiency, and cost management.


      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      Operational Oversight

      • Manage all cold storage operations, including safe and efficient storage of beef products at appropriate temperatures.
      • Supervise and develop Shipping and Receiving Supervisors to ensure reliable and timely service.
      • Plan, direct, and oversee the daily functions of the cold storage, inventory control, and distribution areas.
      • Monitor cold chain integrity and ensure product handling meets all food safety and USDA requirements.

      Safety & Compliance

      • Promote and enforce safe work practices; develop programs to prevent accidents and maintain safe working conditions.
      • Ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations, food safety standards, and internal cold storage protocols.

      Inventory & Quality Management

      • Maintain inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and reconciliation efforts.
      • Oversee quality checks and implement continuous improvement strategies for product handling and storage conditions.
      • Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve issues and ensure compliance with all product specifications.

      Cost & Resource Management

      • Manage department operating budget, including labor, equipment, utilities, and supplies.
      • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising product integrity or safety.
      • Control labor and overtime costs through effective scheduling and productivity planning.

      Leadership & Personnel Development

      • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team in a fast-paced cold storage environment.
      • Administer company policies, including discipline, investigations, and performance reviews.
      • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training for warehouse personnel.
      • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

      Strategic Planning

      • Analyze staffing and resource needs to meet production and shipping demands.
      • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
      • Partner with cross-functional departments (Production, Quality, HR, Maintenance) to align cold storage operations with overall business goals.

      QUALIFICATIONS & CHARACTERISTICS

      • Proven leadership skills with a strong work ethic and high energy level.
      • Effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships across departments and with external partners.
      • Comfortable working in refrigerated environments and knowledgeable about cold chain logistics.
      • Self-driven with the ability to mentor and develop high-potential employees.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
      • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in warehouse or cold storage management, preferably in the food or meat industry.
      • Strong working knowledge of inventory systems and warehouse management software.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
      • Experience with regulatory compliance, food safety programs, and environmental health standards.
      • Solid understanding of budgeting, cost control, and basic accounting principles.
