      Summary

      Resource Management involves the strategic planning, allocation and utilization of various resources to deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable power to SRP customers. Effective resource management ensures we have sufficient resources to transition from fossil fuel energy to renewable resources and other lower carbon emitting sources to serve Arizona for generations to come. This organization focuses on the long-term planning of the power system to 2035 and beyond.

      There are four summer internship positions within Resource Management. The candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in analytics, economics or engineering related curriculum. The candidate should be taking coursework to develop the skills relevant for this position.

      What You'll Do

      The candidate(s) chosen will support one of the four areas below:

      Integrated Planning

      • Supports action plan documentation, data entry/analysis, progress tracking and reporting
      • Supports the Integrated Planning department for tasks associated with the Integrated System Plan and/or special studies
      • Gathers market intelligence research around specific questions as requested by senior leadership and staff

      Resource Planning

      • Performs analysis to support resource decisions and implementation strategies while learning about different forms of power system modeling
      • Supports the team by gathering, organizing and analyzing data to develop business intelligence, improve modeling capabilities or business outcomes
      • Summarizes and interprets results of analyses in reports and/or visualizations using charts, dashboards, heat maps, etc.


      Forecasting & Load Research

      • Performs research related to electricity demand in support of SRP’s corporate energy forecast utilizing market trend analysis and utilizing various software and tools
      • Projects may include programming, data mining, model development, visualization, and reporting/presenting findings

      System Integration

      • Collects and analyzes data associated with resource performance including renewable generation performance, carbon/water intensity, battery metrics, system variability analysis. Develop tools to share information across SRP
      • Creates dashboards and data visualizations to clearly communicate findings and insights from large datasets to non-technical stakeholders
      • Prepare and present reports on resource performance, including renewable generation, carbon/water intensity, battery metrics, and system variability

      • Skilled in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

      Desired experience and skills:

      • Visualization experience with Excel, Tableau or Power BI is desired
      • Experience with Python or R is desired
      • Experience with SQL Server databases, SQL queries and data transformation is desired

      Additional Information

      • Degree major in a Bachelor’s or master’s program in a relevant field is preferred
      • The internship is in Tempe, AZ and will be a mix of in-person and remote based work
      • This internship is only for the summer months however it may be extended beyond the summer based on work availability and high performance.

      Education

      College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

      Hybrid Workplace

      SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona. We are taking steps to protect the health and well-being of all team members, and by following a number of health and safety protocols, to reduce the risk of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
