This is a paid professional development opportunity where you’ll learn Fifth Third Bank’s business practices, operations, and procedures.

      GENERAL FUNCTION:

      The Commercial and Credit Leadership Program (CAPLP) is a two-year rotational program designed to give college graduates real-world experience in a professional setting. Leveraging credit and commercial expertise , this team delivers innovative solutions to clients ranging from middle-market companies to some of the largest companies in the world. Because helping businesses grow and prosper benefits everyone, the Commercial and Credit Leadership Program will help you learn how to assess the needs of corporate clients and determine how best to serve them. Through guided and self-directed learning and training activities, this program gives participants exposure to professional development, critical skill building, and helps them prepare for a career in financial services.

      Strengthen your business acumen through exposure to Fifth Third Bank’s senior leaders, performance coaching and feedback, mentoring relationships, leadership and professional development opportunities, and develop a professional network that includes some of the best talent in the industry.

      WHAT YOU’LL DO:

      Participants will have exposure to credit and sales rotations and get hands-on training from industry leaders, developing skills in analyzing client financial statements, assessing risk, financial modeling and underwriting, and developing key critical thinking skills you’ll need in a career driving economic growth. Get meaningful work experience and targeted educational opportunities to develop future organizational leaders in a rotation-based model that will give you exposure to multiple business areas. Upon program completion, you’ll have access to potential placement opportunities in roles such as: Corporate Relationship Management, Credit Analyst, Treasury Management Officer.

      Your days will be filled with fast-paced on-the-job training and development as a vital part of the team. In meetings, you won’t be expected to be seen and not heard; your ideas will be important to the company’s strategies going forward. You’ll meet with senior leaders, soaking in their experience and insights, while developing your own skills based on their guidance. You’ll be a meaningful part of the team, gaining valuable experience and getting first-hand insights on how to run a major banking institution.

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Can complete underwriting process on their own with some revision / oversight (gradually by the end of the 1st rotation)

      • Demonstrate ability to assess credit risk using financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, industry analysis, collateral analysis, guarantor analysis and loan structure analysis via Credit Authorization Memo

      • Monitor covenant completion and track past due or out of compliance covenants and recommend appropriate course of action

      • Accountable for updating financial covenants as needed

      • Run Probability of Default (PD) model with oversight

      • Partner with Portfolio Managers, supporting the daily duties of underwriting and monitoring credit while performing analytical tasks as needed

      • Responsible for understanding and evaluating completed spreads to determine necessary edits working in collaboration with the CCU team.

      • Responsible for identifying and recommending preliminary portfolio management actions using Credit Service reporting and RADAR with some oversight

      • Create high-impact presentation materials using PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other relevant software programs

      • Understand and utilize complex financial models to build projections

      • Utilize Dealpoint Profitability Analyzer to assess the client relationship and determine RAROC value

      • Partner with Relationship Managers in sales and servicing, performing analytical tasks as needed

      • Draft initial deal screen / opportunity memos

      • Handle special assignments/projects as assigned by department managers

      • Build an extensive network of contacts within Commercial and supporting divisions

      • Attend formal training classes, complete all assigned eLearning courses and participate in extensive self-learning

      KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

      • Upon hire, a completed four-year undergraduate degree in Business required (accounting, economics, finance degrees preferred)

      • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

      • Campus involvement/leadership experience

      • Relevant internship/co-op experience

      • Basic Excel proficiency (data entry, formatting, charts, basic formulas, Vlookup ) required .

      • Ability to complete both guided and self-directed learning activities

      • Financial and industry acumen
