- Commercial Shipyard Estimator
- Develop detailed labor and material estimates from customer provided specifications.
- Extracts estimating data using bid specifications and applicable references. Performs ship checks, estimates labor hours, material requirements, solicits subcontractor quotes, prepares bid for final review, and submits proposals.
- Tracks and manages project transactions such as margins, milestones, and invoicing, and effectively presents this information to upper management and customers as required.
- Support the Estimating Manager with training Junior Estimators.
- Attend bid openings, prepares pre-award information meetings, hold pre-production meetings, and prepare requisitions for subcontractors.
- Provide input to contracts to assist negotiations for additional funding.
- Hold job completion meetings to determine lessons learned for future opportunities.
- Organize and file all documents for future reference.
- Must have the ability and organizational skills to work numerous estimates at once and meet customer’s schedule requirements.
- Draft and submit thorough requests for clarification for missing information to the customer.
- Understanding of technical manuals, drawings, and applicable references.
- Demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Attention to detail while analyzing customer request for cost information
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively and to identify work priorities in a constant changing environment.

- Possess a valid driver's license and operate a motor vehicle with satisfactory driving records.
- Ability to acquire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
- Ability to qualify for and acquire a DBIDS card for access to Government facilities.

- 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience in the ship repair industry.
- Ability to understand technical documents and references to determine impact on cost.
- Working knowledge of ABS and USCG guidelines and inspection criteria.

- Ability to read technical requirements of a specification to develop an acceptable and competitive estimate.
- Apprenticeship, Journeyman or bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or other related field.
- 10+ years of experience in the ship repair industry or managing ship repair projects in the capacity of Lead Man, Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, Program Manager, Port Engineer, Port Captain, Planner, or Surveyor.
- Ability to write technical documents and proposals to support repairs, alterations, teaming agreements, master ship repair agreements, and modifications.

Work Environment
Work is equally performed in an office environment and outside weather conditions, which may include rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to humid conditions and to vibration. Must have the physical abilities attend vessel inspections in person onboard vessels in various locations, which may have steep ladders, high thresholds, and narrow gangways or walkways. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasionally the work environment may be loud.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
