      Description:

      The Village of Glenview is seeking a full-time Communications Specialist within the Management Services Department. Under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, this position will be responsible for managing the Village’s social medial channels, graphic design, content creation and more. Functions assigned to this role include:

      • Manages the Village’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and NextDoor.

      • Designs and writes the Village’s eight-page print newsletter, The Glenview Report, which is sent to every Village household 10 times per year.

      • Utilizes various software programs to create graphics and stories to aid in communicating key Village programs, objectives, and achievements.

      • Serves as the website content manager, in collaboration with key departmental liaisons, for the public website and for the Village’s intranet.

      • Appears in live and recorded video content to post and share across the Village’s social platforms

      • Supports the creation of content aimed at simplifying complex topics to better educate the public on the work of the Village.

      • Supports the Community Engagement Manager in planning Village-wide events, including Coffee with the Council, the Resident Open House and others as needed

      • Maintains and updates the Village’s Resident Handbook, a resource for information about various Village services and events.

      • Collaborates with other departments to plan and promote Village events and initiatives, including the Fire Department Open House, Citizens Police Academy, Citizens Government Academy, the Annual Electronics Recycling event and others.

      Qualifications:

      The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency with graphic design and social media platforms. The Communications Specialist will work in collaboration with other departments to tell stories of public interest and must possess outstanding communication and organizational skills. This individual should be able to thrive as both an independent contributor as well as part of the broader communications team. They should possess the following qualifications and skills:

      • A Bachelor’s Degree with 2-3 years of experience in graphic design, journalism, marketing, communications or equivalent training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The Communications Specialist should have strong writing, editing, video and website experience with daily deadlines preferred.

      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is strongly preferred.

      • Demonstrated ability to manage Facebook, Instagram and other social media accounts and identify key insights from website and social media analytics

      • Knowledge of online content strategy and creation

      • Works well with colleagues at all levels as well as members of the public and business community

      • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail

      Schedule/Work Location:

      This position is typically required to work during the hours Village Hall is open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., which may vary based on operational needs. This position will occasionally be required to attend special events outside of Village operating hours.

      Salary/Benefits:

      The starting salary for this full-time position is $65,000 +/- depending on qualifications with an excellent benefits package. Actual salary will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. This position is non-exempt under FLSA. The position will remain open until filled.
