      DESCRIPTION:
      Under the general direction of the Supervisor Corporate Communications, the Communications Advisor is responsible for corporate communications support of FortisAlberta’s business priorities. This position will focus on the development and positioning of internal and external corporate initiatives to enhance the Company’s reputation.

      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
      • Demonstrate excellent writing skills to effectively convey the Company’s value proposition, communicate with customers and compose ancillary documentation, as required
      • Research and prepare media releases; validate backgrounders, develop speaking points and key messages
      • Research, write and edit external and internal communications materials, including reports, presentations, newsletter articles, intranet and external website content
      • Assess, recommend, plan and implement timely and accurate customer communication strategies to achieve business results
      • Provide communications advice to the business for internal and external communications
      • Develop and implement internal communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged.
      • Assist in the development and execution of marketing campaigns
      • Build and manage key internal relationships at all levels of the organization, across departments and geographic regions
      • Build partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders to support community initiatives
      • Plan, coordinate and manage company events, including logistics, promotion and execution
      • Work closely with other Communications Advisors to identify opportunities to promote initiatives and activities that enhance FortisAlberta’s reputation both internally and externally
      • Participate in an off-hours rotation schedule to monitor and respond to FortisAlberta social media platforms
      • Travel within FortisAlberta’s service territory as required
      • Special projects and other duties, as assigned


      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
      • Proven track record in Canadian Press Style business writing, sound business acumen and ability to synthesize information from a broad range of sources outside of own discipline
      • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement communication strategy and tactics
      • Superior communications skills, including communications planning, research, editing and translating technical data into easily understood formats
      • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines
      • Demonstrated ability to carry projects and initiatives to completion while working successfully with various groups within a diverse and inclusive organization, both in a team environment and independently
      • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
      • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in the handling of confidential information; this includes a high degree of integrity and trust
      • Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and practices
      • Strong analytical skills in order to resolve issues and evaluate possible solutions
      • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with SAP would be an asset
      • Experience liaising with Alberta media and acting as a media spokesperson is an asset

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Business plus a minimum of five (5) years experience in a corporate communications environment is required.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • A professional designation, such as an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) or other accreditation with the International Association of Business Communications or the Canadian Public Relations Society would be an asset.
