      POSITION SUMMARY

      The seasonal Communications Assistant will support the communication team by assisting with day-to-day tasks and community engagement efforts. This position will assist in executing communication strategies, help manage internal communications.

      REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

      Reports to: Communications Strategist

      DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      Essential Duties & Responsibilities

      • Assist in developing communication strategies that align with city goals, identifying key messages, audiences and channels
      • Assist in developing engaging content for websites, social media and print materials
      • Internal Communications: Create newsletters, intranet content, and coordinate internal updates to ensure staff are informed about city initiatives.
      • Assist with video production, photography, presentations, and managing large print projects.
      • Assist with managing the Neighborhood Resources Program, which may include processing grant applications, reporting on program numbers and assisting in neighborhood outreach
      • Provide support for community engagement initiatives, including supporting city departments in their community engagement efforts and integrating with other city engagement, outreach activities and opportunities
      • Work includes occasional weekends and nights.

      PREPARATION AND TRAINING

      Education

      • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

      Work Experience

      • Two or more years of experience in communications or a related role
      • Strong writing, editing and content creation skills.
      • Familiarity with accessibility standards and compliance requirements.
      • Experience with social media management, graphic design tools, and scheduling software.
      • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
      • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

      Certifications and/or Licensures

      • None
      • Required Driver’s License - None

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

        • Journalistic writing techniques using the AP Style, English grammar, creative writing, composing, and editing informational materials for the public.
        • Basic HTML knowledge.
        • Working knowledge with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically with InDesign and Photoshop.
        • Knowledge and understanding using web Content Management Systems (CMS) to produce and publish content.
        • Working knowledge or familiarity with project management software, ideally Asana.
        • Successfully works through projects in a collaborative environment.
        • Skilled ability to exercise judgement, manage multiple tasks, and work with deadlines.

        WORKING CONDITIONS

        Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily).

        HOURLY RATE

        $22.31 - $33.47/Hourly Rate

        This is a seasonal position - The anticipated start and end dates for this position are from February - Late May/Early June.
