      About the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR):

      The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.

      Salary:

      This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,800. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

      Role Overview:

      The Communications Consultant plans, develops, writes, and publishes a variety of content. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure content is accurate and targeted. You will also contribute to agency success by ensuring staff members are informed and engaged. Externally, you will provide messaging, education, and resources for customers with various needs.

      A Day in the Life:

      The essential functions of this role are:

      • Collaborate with team members throughout the agency to produce communications.
      • Create and edit content for internal and external audiences.
      • Create and edit content for topics and modes of communication, including website content, newsletters, letters, social media, and more.
      • Create communications plans to strategize multi-faceted initiatives.
      • Critically and flexibly review communications for effectiveness, market education, and news.
      • Establish, maintain, and follow the communications style guide and related agency standards.
      • Execute short- and long-term goals to support the DOR’s strategic plans.
      • Identify, pitch, and develop messaging for emerging topics and events.
      • Identify, pitch, develop, and improve upon content strategies as well as the processes and procedures that lead to content creation.
      • Manage multiple priorities and deliverables.
      • Implement social media campaigns for assigned projects and programs.
      • Manage inter-agency project requests to determine timeline, approval, and execution.
      • Manage the Communications Strategy calendar to help keep the team on track.
      • Monitor social media feedback to identify ways to make improvements.

      What You'll Need for Success:

      Credentials:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Creative Writing, English, Journalism, and/or Telecommunications.
      • 1-3 years of relevant experience (minimum).

      Additional Qualifications:

      • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
      • Project management skills .
      • Ability to:
        • Adhere to standardized processes and an official style guide.
        • Develop and execute a communications plan, including the ability to set and stick to deadlines Ability to effectively manage internal stakeholder expectations.
        • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency teammates.
        • Express communication strategies in virtual and in-person meetings with people on the
        • Juggle multiple tasks and shuffle priorities.
        • Measure the success of communications initiatives.
        • Research, question and analyze complex topics.
      • Knowledge of:
        • "Plain language.”
        • Best practices in making web-based materials accessible under ADA guidelines.
        • Delivering mass communications (internal and external).
        • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
        • Social media platforms and how to operate them.

      Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

      This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
