- Oral Examination - An oral examination includes a panel consisting of at least two members within a similar field of expertise as the vacancy. Candidates are asked structured questions and must respond orally to allow the panel to evaluate the specific qualifications of each applicant.
- Certify without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.

Communications Dispatcher II: $54,210 - $65,884

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is offering challenging career opportunities to experienced Communications Dispatchers for the positions of Communications Dispatcher II/III . Successful candidates will receive and respond to emergency calls by telephone or radio; key pertinent data into a computer; operate a multi-channel computer-assisted radio system to dispatch public safety personnel; and perform related duties as required.
Incumbents must be available to perform shift work in a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week operation. APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OVERTIME IF NECESSARY AND SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
As a condition of employment candidates must undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation, medical, and polygraph examination. These investigations include employment and credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. Background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years.
Note: The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.Eligible candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

OPTION 1:
Education: Completion of thirty (30) semester units of course work that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
OPTION 2:
Experience: One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience obtaining information via telecommunications equipment while using a computer to enter data and process information.
AND
One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
OPTION 3:
Certificate: Completion of a Public Safety Dispatcher's Basic Course certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
In addition to the options listed above, the following is also required :
Other: Ability to type thirty-five (35) net words per minute.
COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER III
