- Answer and transmit messages over a two-way radio
- Receive and respond to informational requests by officers
- Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and requests for law enforcement services
- Receive, analyze, prioritize, and respond to general public complaints and inquiries
- Perform a variety of clerical, record-keeping and general support duties related to communication activities
- Search computerized records for vehicle registrations, driver licenses, other licenses, wanted felons, missing persons, unidentified persons, stolen property, etc. in the appropriate computer database
- This is a Civil Service Position. Civil Service Office Support Exam 8500 is no longer required.
- Pre-employment Drug testing, Physical and a Criminal Background check are required.
- This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months.
LSU Health New Orleans University Police Department is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Communications Officer 1 or 2.
This position is included in a Career Progression Group.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a (Communications Officer 1 or 2) depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Starting rate of pay for CO 1 is $16.06 and CO 2 is $17.18 there is also an additional $1 Longevity Pay for all hours worked. Rate may be adjusted dependent on applicants’ qualifications.

Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR
Six months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR
Fifteen semester hours of college training.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment.
