- Our Communications Teams create content for multiple communication channels, including digital signs, SWALife (Company intranet), Community blog, the One Report (annual corporate social responsibility report), multimedia project requests, and more. The Communications Intern would gain exposure to these areas and work closely with the Corporate Citizenship Team on various projects and research.
- Interns may be asked to support a variety of projects within any one of these Teams:
Corporate Communications: Provides guidance and develops strategic communication plans about various Company initiatives and topics, including Benefits and Wellbeing, Company Awards, Company Culture, Employee Insights, Facilities, Supply Chain, Technology, Training and Development, and more
Operational Communications: Develops and provides communications tailored to the six major operational frontline workgroups [Flight Operations, Inflight Operations, Ground Operations, Technical Operations (Tech Ops), Network Operations Control (NOC), and Customer Support & Services (CS&S)], including targeted newsletters
External Communications (Public Relations): Are you interested in media relations and desire to learn more about Southwest’s proactive and reactive media strategy? The Public Relations Team supports the development of media materials, event planning, commercial and financial results announcements, and proactive and reactive media relations, including crisis response and social media strategy and execution
Edit and proofread Company material
Attend cross-functional meetings as needed
Complete special projects and assist with special events as needed
Write articles for our intranet ( SWALife ) and other Companywide communication channels, department publications, Southwest’s onboard digital magazine (“The Scoop”), and draft copy for digital signs ( SWALife TV)
Draft press releases and write executive bios
Draft and distribute regular and ad hoc communications for C&C and Leaders
Support communication for Southwest initiatives, including communication planning, content development, and project management
Write, edit, and proofread frontline communication in coordination with CS&S Senior Leadership, internal workgroups, and other Southwest Departments
Create graphics that align with Corporate Brand
Translate traditional written communication into info- graphics
Utilize web publishing tools on a daily basis to create, deliver, and maintain content on CS&S intranet and knowledge base sites
Provide friendly service to and maintain positive relationships with all Internal Customers
Join Southwest as a S ummer 202 4 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 21 to August 9 , 2024 .
Work onsite at our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX.
Workplace flexibility for 50% of the time is typically available, but Interns are expected to be onsite for Intern- related events .
Dedicate 40 hours each week to your internship responsibilities and tasks.
Receive hourly pay of $22 and receive a one-time $1,000 stipend on your first paycheck .
Receive free, unlimited space available travel privileges for yourself (taxes and fees may apply on international travel) .
Interns will be provided any required equipment, such as a laptop, for the internship.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required . Must possess a strong proficiency of the English language, including superior grammar, spelling, and organizational skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required
Understanding of the airline/travel industry preferred
Possess a strong understanding of how Customers and Employees use communication channels to communicate with the Sou thwest Brand
Ability to work independently and the willingness to function as part of a Team
Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure
Must have the ability to comprehend , proofread, and edit a variety of documents with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail
Must handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost professionalism
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process
This position requires authorization to work in the United States as a perman ent employee without sponsorship now or in the future
Progress toward a degree, major or minor, in C ommunications , Journalism, Graphic Design or similar degree
Minimum sophomore status. May not have an undergraduate graduation date of May 2024 or prior , unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at the time of application
To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
Required: Full time 40hrs a week
Must maintain a consistent weekly schedule during normal business hours at a max of 8hrs per day
You must reside in Dallas, TX during the internship and work a hybrid schedule of at least 50% in office and be onsite for applicable intern events
Program Dates: May 21 st – August 9 th , 2024
$22 per hour + $1,000 stipend paid one time on first paycheck
