Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 Executive - Assist in creating, editing, and publishing video content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and agency events.
- Assist in organizing community outreach events, workshops, and meetings.
- Collaborate on marketing and communication initiatives to increase visibility and public engagement.
- Draft written content such as press releases, social media posts, and newsletters.
- Capture and report engagement metrics for digital campaigns and outreach efforts.
- Support the development of digital content strategies alongside the Community Engagement Specialist.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Community Engagement team.
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
- Strong skills in video production and editing (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools).
- Experience in community engagement, outreach, or a similar role.
- Strong communication, creativity, and interpersonal skills.
- Current and acceptable clearances: Act 34 (PA State Police), Act 151 (PA Child Abuse History), Act 114 (PDE Fingerprinting), PDE6004 (Arrest & Conviction), and Act 168 (PA Sexual Misconduct background).
- Upon hire, all new employees must obtain a certificate of medical examination as well as a tuberculosis test as required under Chapter 14 of the Public School Code, 24 P.S. §§14-1416, 14-1418; 22 PA Code §49.12(b) (regarding education); and 28 Pa Code §23.44 (regarding health and safety).
- Must be able to work independently and follow-through to completion of all assigned tasks; manage multiple tasks; be able to interpret, analyze, and problem solve across all areas of assigned responsibilities effectively and efficiently. Must be able to converse and interact with individuals with diverse levels of education and abilities.

The Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 (AIU8) is one of the 29 intermediate units that provides a vast array of services for member school districts, including student services, training and technical assistance, online learning, and customized programs and services. IU8 includes four counties comprised of 35 school districts (approximately 98 schools) and five Career Technical Centers. Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 serves approximately 47,000 students across four counties within 3500 square miles. Our service area includes four counties: Blair, Somerset, Bedford, and Cambria. We have five different office locations within our service area: Altoona, Duncansville, Ebensburg, Richland, and Somerset. Job Summary:
The Community Engagement Intern will support the Community Engagement Specialist in fostering relationships with school districts, local communities, and stakeholders. This part-time, temporary internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multimedia content creation, public relations, and community outreach in an educational nonprofit setting. The intern will assist with producing engaging video content and supporting community engagement strategies.

The internship will primarily take place at the IU8 Executive Office in Altoona, PA, with occasional travel to local schools, community sites, and other assigned locations within our four-county region.
