We empower people to live their best life by fostering connections and better health outcomes for individuals and the whole arthritis community.

      The Arthritis Foundation is seeking Community Engagement Interns. This position provides a student intern with a broad range of responsibilities in organizational development, fundraising, marketing and event planning, volunteer management, program development, and data collection and research.

      Learning Objectives and Goals:

      CAREER DEVELOPMENT: Through meaningful learning opportunities and access to executive leadership, student interns will gain a working knowledge of nonprofit management, community and volunteer engagement, and fundraising. In addition, students will be able to apply their writing, research, and data analysis skills to further developing the Arthritis Foundation’s programs.

      SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Interns will learn project and time management skills, and communication skills, specifically how to effectively articulate the organization’s mission. Interns will improve their public speaking and marketing skills. They will also learn how to set individual goals that align with the organization’s broader goals and then work towards those goals. Interns will be an active participant in assessing the results of their activities throughout each project.

      PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: Working at the Arthritis Foundation will provide students an opportunity to deepen their nonprofit work and gain confidence in the ways that they can make a positive impact in their community.

      JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties

      1. Act as a resource liaison responsible for organizing health education materials, and responding to requests for health education & fitness information and local resources
      2. Assist with putting on community health education presentations throughout the service area
      3. Represent the Arthritis Foundation at selected worksites & community wellness expos
      4. Work with volunteer committee chair to identify and recruit volunteers to implement advocacy and health education activities for both Jingle Bell Run events in Orange County and San Diego.
      5. Assist with cultivating relationships with targeted community healthcare providers to increase community resource referrals and to facilitate referral back to the Arthritis Foundation, through monthly communication (phone call, drop visit, email).
      6. Assist in at least one of the Juvenile Arthritis Community Engagement events.
        Internship Goals
        • To learn about the overall market growth plan: mission, fundraising and volunteer engagement/leadership.
        • To engage new and old participants, drive registration and raise awareness for the Arthritis Foundation Walk to Cure Arthritis and Jingle Bell Run.
        • To become an Insights Ambassador to help drive insights takers that will be measured at the end of the practicum.
        • To drive info seekers to the Arthritis Foundation programs and services, which will be measured by Power Bi.
        • To understand the strategy behind fundraising which results in providing mission.

      REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

      Internships are open to current students enrolled in a 4-year University pursuing a degree in one of the following disciplines (Public Health, Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management)

      Additional Qualifications

      • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
      • Experience with Adobe, cloud-based document sharing, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
      • Proficient with social media administration.
      • Ability to make cold calls.
      • Passion for helping others
      • Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team.
      • Ability to set priorities and organize work to accomplish goals.
      • Openness to learning. Flexibility.
