      Full Time: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

      SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles.


      The Jericho Vocational Services Center (JVSC) utilizes a “one-stop” model for providing vocational and educational training, mentoring, case management, supportive and linkage services to create successful transitions to employment and career pathways. Jericho provides services for any Los Angeles County resident 18 years and older. Additionally, our Jericho program specializes in vocational services tailored for individuals impacted by the criminal justice system.


      The Community Health Worker provides wraparound Intensive Case Management services that are individualized, survivor focused, and trauma informed to systems-impacted women (those that have encountered the criminal or juvenile justice system, i.e. arrested, charged with, or convicted a criminal offence, or by felony probation), to improve health outcomes and reduce recidivism rates. These Services include but are not limited to: Referral and linkage to physical health, mental health, and substance use treatment services, housing support services, employment and education services, cognitive behavior interventions, and other supportive services based on client need.

      Requirements

      These specifications are general guidelines based upon the minimum, ordinarily considered essential, to satisfactory performance in this position. Individual skills and abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

      To perform effectively in this position, the employee must meet the following requirements:

      • Be proficient in reading, writing in English. Bilingual Spanish (a plus).
      • Possess a working knowledge of conducting interventions for clients with a history of substance abuse, incarceration, mental illness or homelessness
      • Working knowledge of client eligibility screening for entitlement program (DPSS, Voc. Rehab, Cal Works, etc.)
      • Working knowledge of compatible service systems including, but not limited to, DPSS, SSI, etc.
      • Know and comply with Agency policies and procedures, HIPAA.
      • Comfortable working with a diverse population including LGBT, formerly incarcerated and people with co-occurring disorders
      • Present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
      • Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety or word processing software.
      • Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make decisions.
      • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and SHIELDS for Families philosophies.
      • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
      • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
      • Provides services within a culturally sensitive model of practice and is respectful to the community and clients.
      • It is preferred that the Community Health Worker possess “lived experience” to meaningfully connect with this population.
      • The employee in this position must be able to perform this job safely, without endangering the health or safety of him/her or others.
